Low Dust Brake Pads?

Just wondered if anyone has the "Low Dust Pads". If there is truth in advertising, they cut the dust by 80%, and increase stopping power. The stock make the white wheels grey quite fast. Love the look of the white s-lites, hate the dust. Do the replacement pads work better? How much was install?

Do a search for EBC greenstuff. There are a few threads out there on these, including one with input from people who have put them on. Don't recall which forum they're in (performance and tuning, probably), but I think user Swamos started the thread, or at least was a participant in it (I remember him being the one who had installed them and was reporting on their performance).

Thanks, most of the feedback doesnt seem too positive. From what I understand, the EBC pads do give off less dust but with less stopping power and more fade. Anyone out there confirm of deny this?

On our last three cars (911 Carrera, Golf GTI VR6, Honda Civic), I've replaced the stock brake pads with Mintex pads. In all cases they:
1. Reduced brake dust dramatically
2. Greatly improved brake "feel" and linearity,
3. Eliminated squeaking in brakes

When my MCS comes in, I'll be looking for another set of Mintex pads.

Great, Mintex pads sound like the ticket then. Are they made for the MINI yet? Anyone got them?

TIA for the help.....

What about the rotors? - the dealer said that they replace
the rotors when they do the pads, I wonder if different pads might increase/lessen rotor wear.

Sorry for the slow response!

The last set of Mintex pads I bought were for my Golf GTI VR6; the pad set (I think all 4 wheels) was $65. I purchased them from Autotech Sport Tuning, in San Juan Capistrano (California).
(949-240-0450).

By the way; the pads appear to have no adverse affect on rotor life. If anything, the rotors last longer.

Hope this helps!

Well, I've probably done 1000k with them on now. My initial thoughts were that I was unhappy with them. The first time I went down a mountain with them I got fade like I have never had before.

However, they seem to have bedded in, and are now working much more like the original pads. In fact, another S owner Snoopy drove my car last night and he said that they felt better than his brakes (stock pads).

We went for a big, and at times fast drive yesterday, and I was much happier with the brakes. They seemed fine, and quite grippy, with no fade (but heightened paranoia on my behalf).

They do generate dust though. On a fast run like yesterday I'd say that I had two thirds the dust of the other MINI's. However when pottering around town there is noticably less dust. In these situations, I can do nearly a tank bofore the wheels look filthy, whereas the stock pads would have the wheels in a similar state in 100k.

As for rotor wear, that was another reason why I went for them. The claim is that they reduce wear on the rotors. With the price of rotors, I thought that was a good thing.

Does that help?

I had the same probs as swamos with the EBC greenstuff pads - but now they've bedded in, with the EBC discs as well, I've really noticed an improvement in stopping power. I'd recommend them!

MINI Going.....Toyota Supra RZ-S Twin Turbo Coming....Standing Quarter, anyone....?

I've found that Ferodo DS2500 pads are great in terms of performance and low dust.

I was at a track day on Friday and I was really surprised at how little dust was on my wheels.

Make sure you like to drive hard though!
