Hi,
I've not had my mini for long but now the weather has turned very autumnal it appears my heater doesnt work, is anyone aware if this is a common problem and one I am likely to be able to sort out myself?
I've checked the oil and coolant and these both appear fine, not sure if there are any other fluid levels I should check.
Any advice would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Teresa
Could be a blocked heater matrix stopping hot coolant circulating or a cable has come off behind the rotary heat control knob on the dash control panel which opens the air flaps.
Hi mate I have the same problem with my cooper s 53 plate. My expantion tank was cracked so it was losing pressure so they guy at mini place said it could be that. But it's been changed and still not working. So he said it could be the thermostat but I changed that today and still not working. He then said it could be the heater matrix but that's hot! So it's not that. Still not sure what it is I'm thinking it could be the control panel. If you know help me! Haha
If you have the basic control panel with rotary knobs it is possible for the bowden cable to come off the back of the knob so that the heater air flaps remain shut, shutting off the hot air from the matrix. If you search on Mini2 forum there are instructions for removing the panel to check. Diagram Here:- RealOEM.com * BMW R50 Cooper Various Bowden cables / shafts
Hi and thanks for the reply. I have looking in the drivers foot well where the cable goes to and it's operating fine from what I can see. But my controls do not light up :/ could this be anything to do with the fault and will my car be ok if there's something wrong with the matrix as I have replaced the bottle and stat already. Just don't want to corse ant damage to the engine. Thanks any idea?
Matrix may be getting hot on pipes but not ciculating through core perhaps.....blocked matrix are quite common on Mini's, easier to replace than flush out.
Lights in control panel can be replaced there is a 'How to' thread if you search on Mini2.
Matrix is in the foot well is that correct? And where would you recommend one from? I have a beakers for minis to mins down the road but would you get a new one?
