Hello, I purchased a 2012 mini cooper S and cannot find the tire size for these rims.
The current size is 185-50-17 and I have searched everywhere but cannot find this size tire. Is there another size of tire that would fit? Any help is appreciated
That's a very odd size for a Mini. Standard tyres for 17" wheels are 205/45-17.
Your 185/50-17 are exactly the same overall diameter, so maybe someone fitted this size to get narrower tyres, optimised for snow (seeing as you are in Canadia)?
Wow, that wheel is rare enough that it isn't listed in the RealOEM parts catalogue.
I see that a Dunlop 3D SP Winter Sport tyre (runflat) is available in Britain in this size, but that is a European-style 'continental' winter tyre and not the more extreme 'Nordic' or North American winter tyre - these European winter tyres are sometimes called 'performance winter' tyres in North America.
Sorry, that doesn't help much, does it? Have you tried a Mini dealer - it may be an expensive place to buy tyres but it's better than having to swap wheels.
This applies to the stock 205/45-17 fitment, for which wheels must be at least 6.5" wide.
For a 205/50-17 fitment the wheel only needs to be 5.5" wide. This fitment would be 3.3% more in diameter than stock (at 60 mph the speed would read 62 mph), which is 0.3% more than the maximum deviation recommended for tire replacement. Since these wheels are ET42 (versus ET48 for other 17" OEM wheels) I don't know if you'd have rubbing issues with this taller size. You certainly wouldn't want to use this size for winter tires, as a 185/50-17 fitment is recommended to allow the use of snow chains.
Searching for cars with that part number, RealOEM shows only European Mini variants, suggesting this wheel wasn't sold in North America. I presume the F56 listing is an error, since they have 5-stud hubs that this wheel won't fit!
Thanks for the input guys. Yeah this is pretty frustrating. I really like the rims, but I'm going to have to purchase different rims. I wonder if I can get mini to swap these rims for ones that are more realistic.
I can get the tires directly from dealership for $300 each it looks like. I am not interested in paying $1200 to get a new set of tires though.
I'm surprised that there is anything other than winter tires in that size.
