i car share & left my Cooper at my mates house this morning as usual. 10 o'clock he gets a call from his wife to let me know there's a road crew trying to repair holes in the road & one of the holes is right under my car.

So we rush back to his house (45 mins away) to find the truck parked almost right up against my car & a hole half filled with tarmac only inches away from the side of my car.

Luckily after a good look over, all appears fine but my heart was in my mouth all the way back to his house. Apparently they put notes through everyone's door yesterday but 'missed' his house.

A similar thing happened to me about three cars ago (Australian-built Capri XR2) - A group of us from the office left work early to go somewhere, and when we came back they were getting ready to tow my car away. It seems the buried power cable for the building had gone bad sometime after we left, and the construction guys were getting ready to dig up the parking lot to replace it. And my poor little car was in the way of the excavator!
