super dooper new blue cooper

Right then, despite having been reading these forums (fora??) for ages, this is my first post.

Picked up my little mini cooper on 29th january....my birthday!!! what a day that was! We woke up in the morning and ate our breakfast on the balcony over looking the med in our apartment on the last day of our hols in sunny spain.

flight was on time, arrived back in liverpool airport at half one and dashed back to pick up the car at the appointed time of three o clock.

also got another thing that you get on your birthday that night, if you know what i mean(!).

gerrinthere!

indi blue, black roof (you don't see that combination too often...and i like the understated look of it), air con (manual), half leather sports seats, chrome bits on the bumpers, mfsw, sunroof, cd player, 8 spokes...and big smiles for linda (my wife), james (our little 18 month old boy), and me when we picked it up.

he's called thomas by the way, james is obsessed by thomas the tank engine (who's also blue), and when we were looking at the car in the road the next day he said "teeeesh" which is baby speak for 'thomas.' nice.

done just over 2000 miles in her so far (work takes me up and down the country a fair bit) and all's well. crackin little cars, aren't they?

i thought it had a little pull to the left initially, but i might have been imagining it, having it read it so often on here...i think it's gone now, anyway.

bit of a shock to find that there was no glove box, though! i thought i'd read and re-read the literature and website a million times, and that all you got with the storage pack was rubbishy little map holders etc...didn't want them, so did get them. i remember the salesman specifically mentioning the map holders when i ordered, but not the glove box...that's a bit poor, i reckon. you've got to have a glove box, haven't you? for cd's etc if nothing else. do all minis have one now? if so, when was that from?

any way, apart from that (and my missing euro plates which i'd asked for...was promised and still not sorted), i'm well happy. the boy loves the sun roof and i'm so made up that i got it...even though it's only been actually open a couple of times so far! also, got a great number plate...lin says it means "mmmmmmm 52 kisses!"

loads more to say/ask/reports etc, and will try and get round to doing some more posts as and when.

brilliant forum, by the way...helped me loads when deciding to buy one...recent previous cars to this in chronoligical order: crappy white fiesta, magnificent black capri (mark III) (blew up with engine fire!!!) and saab 900. we've also got a nice r reg golf mark III as our family car....just passed the magic 100,000 mile mark.

take care.

A little bit uncanny, is all of this!

My birthday is also 29 Jan (check my profile if you don't believe me!), and my car is called James (after James the Red Engine from Thomas the Tank Engine, which I loved a few years back!). I even had a 'train station' book holder for all the books. Ahhh, those were the days

But my baby arrived jan 3rd (I guess 26 days premature depending how you look at it!).

hey, thanks for the responses everyone.

don't know why i've taken so long to register....better late than never, though, eh?!

any ideas about these glove boxes then...are they fitted as standard now? and if so, when from? i'm half thinking of going back to the dealers and seeing if there's any chance of a freebie retro fit...

EFC - when I picked mine up on Jan 3rd, the dealer said to me "oh by the way, they are all being fitted with glove boxes now".... and I had a glove box! Didn't ask in advance, didn't even know they existed (they didn't when I test drove and ordered).

But on a recent (and my first) MINI meet (Kent), one of the guys there told me his dealer called him and asked him if he wanted one, and said it was £20 extra!

Not sure if they would be able to just 'add' a door on though. Apparently (according to my dealer) the new glove box is part of a whole new design, and the new design stretches across the whole of the underneath of the dashboard (including under the steering column), with different 'better matching' (IIRC it matches okay anyway) plastic to before and there is also a little felt-lined cubby hole type thing just to the right and below the steering wheel.

Hope this helps...

Is it a Chilli pack option? MY MCS with Chilli had it fitted. Anyway, get down the parts centre, they will order you up the parts from stores, takes about 1 week. Fit the glovebox yourself, I did my wifes MCS in about 25 minutes. Screwdriver and T20 torx spanner is all you need. Total cost about £70, and gives great satisfaction to DIY.

Hi Topsy

You'll have to remind me which EB/W S you are! I assume you are not the couple with the little girl, and you are not Bad Manners, so you must be the other EB/W!?! With a personalised plate?

I met too many people to remember who's who (and I am pretty rubbish at names at the best of times anyway! )

Click on 'user control panel', 'edit profile' and write what you like in the 'signature' box. And then add some smileys too!

Congrats on the MINI Cooper.
Surprised you never got a glove box though, my husband picked his Cooper up first week of January and it has one
