Question auto un-lock - when did this get introduced?

i've got a courteset car today while mines having a new windscreen pu it. To all intents it's the same as my car - chilli pack cooper '52' reg, the only real differences being this one has a sun roof & doesnt have mfsw & asc. like mine it automatically locks when you set off.

What it does have that i wasnt aware of before is when you turn off the ignition & withdraw the key, the doors automatically unlock. mine doesnt do this. i have to do the double pull on the door handle.

so when was this introduced or is it a programming option that i missed?

Sounds like your car has a fault (or at least programming error) Hat. It should auto un-lock when you turn the engine off.

What your are having to do at the moment would drive me nuts as did the auto-lock feature I had in a courtesy car recently. I prefer to be in control of the doors myself.

I believe it arrived around November?

You should be able to have it programmed in though.

I don't think this is a fault. Before November (I think) of last year, when you have the auto-lock feature programmed in, it only locks. To unlock you have to double pull the door handles. The auto-unlock only happens on the newer cars. I asked my dealer about this and he said the same thing. This is why I didn't have it programmed in to my car.

I think your dealer is telling porkies. My car is a late September build and has the "unlock when you take the key out" function.

The car came pre-programmed with the following "options" which I never asked for - but find them quite cool.

*Comfort Opening from remote
*Closing windows and sunroof with key
*Follow me home lights
*auto locking above 10 mph (and unlocking when key is removed from the ignition)

Sunroof and windows are closeable from inside the car when the key is removed - but before the door is opened - but I don't know if that's an "option" or a normal feature.

Strange, I've got a 2003 MCS and that facility isn't mentioned in the handbook.

Hi

I am quite new to the site. So hello everyone.

This "closing sunroof and windows with key", thing.
We found that the key opened the windows and roof, by mistake when I "overpressed" the key one morning.

How do you close them using key ???

If you get out of the car and leave the roof/windows open - use the key to lock the door and keep it turned in the lock and the windows and roof will close. It's almost magical in it's own special way.

Thanks, I will try it lunch time and impress my friends.....

The coolest of cool features surely has to be the "pedestrian wetter", or more commonley known as the headlight washers.

How smart is that.

Another question from this beginner, how do I get the cool mini images below my signature ??????

I don't think you will find this works on British Cars. I enquired about this function with MINI UK as it is mentioned in the Hand Book. They said that this feature had to be removed because of Health & Safety.

That's not true unfortunately.

It does work on UK cars.

Hmm, well my Cooper is a MY 2003, Dec 2002 build, and it doesn't do this. I've grown accustomed to the double-pull of the handles so that I hardly even notice it now, but it would be pretty nice to have this enabled. I'll have to ask my dealer about it...I also want to change the programming so that one click of the button on the key opens all doors, not just the driver's side, so I can get them both done at the same time.

i checked the courtesey car with the auto unlock & the build date was November 2002. Mine is December 2002 & doesn't have it. The only conclusion is that these features get introduced in a fairly hit & miss way or the cars are part pre-assembled.
