Offline | Toyota Scion xA (new MINI competition?) On another thread here, someone mentioned the upcoming Toyota Scion (though they were talking about the xB, an SUV-like vehicle). Having never heard of this, I did a search and found the Scion website, and lo and behold I'm greeted with the Scion xA, which looks very much to me like Toyota's take on the MINI. Check it out at www.scion.com (then scroll over the "Drive" on the left side, and click on xA). Slightly reminescent of the MINI from the outside (especially the rear end), and have a look at the interior shots. Hmm, central speedo (and tach which they actually use on some current cars also), silver rings around the air vents, silver downtubes or "legs" on either side of the center console...hmm, seem strangely familiar to anyone else? Performance and handling probably won't hold a candle to the MINI, of course, but it does look like a pretty neat car. I hope it does well, this country needs to move away from oversized vehicles and towards more reasonably-sized ones. PigLick Last edited by PigLick : Mar 18th, 2003 at 01:15 PM. |

Offline | swamos, did you go to the scion website? They have pictures there, not the greatest selection, but enough that you should definitley be able to tell how it looks. I agree with DFL, it does look reminescent of the Matrix (and, as I said, the MINI, although much less so), which makes me wonder if they'll keep both on the market at the same time, or if they'll be "replacing" the matrix with this thing. | MINI Traitor | Yeah, sorry mate, I just had a bit more of a dig, and found some photos of it. Unfortunately, I wish that I hadn't as I think it's that unique kind of "Toyota Ugly" that sends shivers up my spine. ![]() If anyone thinks that I'm being too hard on it, go on, stop me ![]() |

Offline | Yeah, but does it come in British Racing Green??! I wonder who the target market is? One of the slogans on the website sounds a bit MINI motoring-ish: "This is a road map. You create the experience." It says car length is 154.1. What's the MINI - 149.0? Can't remember. Cheers to small cars! Pure Silver/Black MCS, DSC |

Offline | From the side and front it really doesn't bear any resemblance at all to our favorite little car, but the rear end and interior definitely remind me of a MINI. The target market is basically young people, just entering the new car market. That's why it's got the sleek, kinda hip tech-ie look, and did you notice some of the options, especially when it comes to audio? Like I said, personally I don't think it holds a candle to the MINI, but it is definitely going to be a MINI competitor. PigLick |
