Offline | Dodgy replacment wing mirror glass Dont know if this has been brought up before, but i was the unfortunate mini owner to find someone had whacked my passenger side mirror, breaking the glass but not ruining the whole wing mirror. Fine i thought, i'll just go and get a replacment from my mini garage down the road. I bought the glass and the mechanic even fitted it for me, so i drove off seemingly happy. Till i realised the new glass mirror, is a completely differnt magnification to the original remaining drivers side glass. Anyway, to the point, it seems that BMW have sussed out a sneaky cost cutting method by not producing the (probably costly) curved mirror lenses that give great field of vision, and just selling flat (probably cheap to produce) mirror that you cant see 'jack' out of! Im not best pleased, its rendered the left mirror practically useless as you can only see a tiny amount of whats going on. Just thought id let you all know, hope you're not unlucky enough to have to replace it in the first place! |

Offline | Are you saying that there are two types of door mirrors available ? I broke one of mine a while ago, ordered and fitted the replacement part from my local dealer. The replacement looks the same as the other original. I must go and check the magnification and see if there is a difference ! ![]() |

Offline | Ditto I had to replace my whole passengers door mirror when we had our cooper because of some plonker and the replacement mirror glass they used gave the appearance of the cars being closer than they were compared to the drivers side. :dinger ![]() ![]() |

Offline | You got the wrong one. Just a brief look at my mirrors make me think the mirror itself is symetrical and as such could be mounted to either side. I'd double check your part number, then go back and reorder. If they're not interchangable, then I'd wager you got the driver side mirror for a LHD car. |

Offline | Just in case anyone else finds this thread about the mirror glass sketch... Lost mine to a super wide Clio in a tiny country lane... Spade ends on heated wires came off but the body and car survived unscathed ..impressed with its resiliance. On the rear of the glass the black plastic frame or mount will have a letter "C" or "F" on it... C = Convex and F = Flat... is my guess... Convex more expensive but fitted as standard and give better rear view..imho Just been through same sketch with wrong kind of glass but they went one better at my dealer and gave me Nearside (passenger side) instead of the off side...so wrong glass wrong side too.... put it right next day... I actually clipped the wrong side glass into the body of the mirror, it was clearly the wrong one as the interior of the housing at the top was very visible and the thing fouled on bottom of housing under adjustment. All better now and the parts man has learnt something new for the next poor *** that loses a mirror glass.... They do clip out easy enough but just take yer time and don't get tempted to bodge a huge screw driver in there.... hope this is of some help .. regards Nige |

Offline | This happened to me more than 6 months ago. I've reordered the part 3 times and each time it's the flat one!!! It's very dangerous for me because I drive a LHD mini, and I spend a fair amount of time in the UK - recently i nearly had a bad incident on the motorway because of this dodgy glass. Can someone please tell me the correct part number for: Passenger side, LHD mirror glass, the one that gives wide-angle view, not the magnified view! Thanks very much to anyone who can help, this is a dangerous issue 2002 Mini Cooper 1979 Ford Mustang 2.3 Ghia BRG Cooper with white roof, 16"alloys, auto a/c, sunroof, seat heaters, sport suspension, shorty aerial |
