Used MC a good idea? Help!!

A local dealer has offered me a used MC (Chilli Red with white bits) in mint condition that has done 12000 miles is 1.5 yrs old with chillipack, sunroof, manual air, Single CD+ Boost and alarm for £12,500.

Is this a good deal?

Is it a risk buying one of the early cars? Help please!!

Or should i just order a brand new one and wait.... (gulp).... 3 months!!

Help please!!

That doesn't seem too bad, but I think with the price used MINI's are you may as well spec your own and wait the 9 or so weeks. Then you can make sure you get exactly what you want.

Phone a few other dealers and you may find one with a shorter waiting list and/or a cancelled order (or even a showroom car to your liking).

pick your own and wait - it'll be worth it in the end.

Is the car offered through a main dealer ?

I assume the car is 51 plate ?

There should be no issue buying second hand, all the cars have had the bugs fixed as part of warranty, if you have any "fault" then it will still be covered by warranty.

The car you describe is simular to mine and would cost around £13700 new so there is a saving here.

Maybe buy second hand and have the cooper works conversion ? £12500 plus £2000 you will be paying £14500 against £13700 for the basic car new.

Then again you can get a basic cooper s for £14500..damn just when things were becoming clearer.

Who knows ??

Have fun making your decision.

adios

If you can afford a new MINI, forget an early car.

As others have suggested, ring around and put your request for a new car into all your local and semi-local dealers.

Cheers

I got a used Cooper for 12.5K similiar spec. I can't fault it.

As for looking around for a used cooper. All the dealers put the secondhand mini's on the minicherished web site.

It will give you a good idea the price you should be paying.

Cooper: Red, bonnet stripes, chequered roof.

Don't do it! Everyone loves MINIs, so judging from my own experience, the only reason that someone could have to sell a MINI is having many problems with it. "Don't worry 'cause it's under warranty" is dealer-speak for, "buy it and visit me often."

Trading in for a MCS is not a real reason, why not get one in the first place? Only if they didn't exist yet, which goes back to the early car/many problems issue.
