Offline | Face lift? 2004 I heard today that 2004 MINI was scheduling the face lift (minor change) from a dealer. Do someone have the information about this? |

Offline | I know that the headlights are getting a redesign (and the work's gone to eastern Europe) - that's usually a dead giveaway that there's to be a facelift. Although it could just be cost-cutting. Can't see why the car needs a facelift - looks pretty perfect to me. Ordered my "S" August '01. Arrived July '02. EB with white roof, wheels and stripes, Chili pack, DSC and climate control. Hate those 17" runflats though. Can now be seen all over the West Midlands, as a blue blur passing everything at speed |

Offline | its prolly a ploy to get more sales. People will want one of the original looking new minis and then there will be another group of people who want to distinguish themselves by buying a new new mini... i think in wierd and wonderful ways. |

Offline | I'm all for a facelift ![]() I just can't see how they can improve on the MINI, so any facelift will be to its detriment ![]() I hope they do make it look worse so then we will all have the "original" MINIs which will be rarer and more desirable ![]() MINI, RX8 and MX5 - Done those............. Offline | Facelift? the MINI was introduced in Europe in 2001 and the USA in early 2002, so I don't see one coming down the pipe anytime soon. I would expect some very minor comstic changes in the 2005 or 2006 model years before the MINI built on the MKII platform arrives. The MINI is the type of car that is not governed by the car industry's customary 4 or 5 year full redesign cycles. '02 MINI Cooper CVT On Order: 2004 MCS (Est production date: 9/5/03) |

Offline | I think so too: purely Marketing dept's decision If there's no difference then at the end of this year people would say why bother buy the new 2004 MINI instead of getting an old stock from 2003? Hope it's going to be a good change. |

Offline | i think KAN2 is referring to MINOR Facelift as he mentioned.... it's odd that there are people who feels that facelift is not needed because the MINI is so good... and the ones that wanted one so that the 2002 2003 models become more "original"... let's face it, all cars undergo annual updates, whether it is mechanical specification or interior or exterior options and trims. Most of them are done to freshen up the car or to correct faults. cost savings as someone mentioned is a very valid motivation to change something. supplier issue is another concern. redesign to incorporate certain features (headlight redesign) is another. BMW parent company does minor 'facelifts' every 2-3 years, mostly on the trims and headlights, rear lights, aerodynamics. Many of us can spot whether it is an older 5-er or older 3-er... even the E46 coupes are getting one for 2004... after the sedans got them a couple of years ago. I think this is common practice in the auto industry to freshen up their models periodically. nothing wrong at all for sales or for old and new owners. great motivation for older model owners to turn in their leased or owned vehicle and trade up... i would be concerned if a company sells something for the entire lifespan of the model range without minor revisions. even the 10+ year old NSX and previous SL gets updates ever now and then. for brand new vehicles that are stylized more, such as the Beetle or TT, you do see the minor changes less frequent but needed. The 2004 TT looks the same in metal but all the bumper trims have become much more aggressive... it's what, 4 years old? what KAN2 is referring to ("MINOR CHANGE") is probably more towards, eh, a minor update as he mentioned. I have to guess there will be very little change of *sheet metal* changes. at most it will be bumper and trims changes. minor changes are definitely welcome... if you own an 2002 MINI your cost to install a factory alarm will be a couple hundred more than an 2003, with the need to replace the D pillar trim. some updates are good. lighten up guys, i think minor updates are necessary, inevitable, and should be welcomed. ![]() |

Offline | just a thought might be nothing.. but if i remember there was mention of a different motor to be used in the mini. if so could it be possible that the "facelift" is to allow for the different motor. again its just a thought not based on anything solid. 02 MCS DS/W (Totaled November 02 on Fall Folage Run) 03 MCS DS/W (See my MINI Profie for extensive list of mods) |
