Just buying a MINI for my wife and I can't seem to find definitive answers on when LCI models were introduced and what the differences are. MINI hatches seem very evolutionary.
I am looking at a 2010 Cooper model, registered in September. It is advertised as having 122BHP, which from my research is one of the changes in the LCI of that year. However can't tell cosmetically the differences to make sure it is LCI.
Was there an LCI around this time and is this one of them? Also what were the differences and is it worth worrying about?
Enter the last 7 of VIN at and the Series will be highlighted.
You can also tell by looking at the interior center stack where surrounds were black rather than silver as depicted below ...
Thanks for that. Don't have photo of the inside or VIN number as yet.. I think from further research it is pre-lci.. and silver dash seems more right from memory. So could a pre-LCI have the 122ps engine as that is what the advertised it as?
Interestingly (or not) I managed to get the VIN from the reg number using an unlikely source
247spares dotcodotuk
Type in your reg, and click "find my vehicle details".
On the resulting page, (presuming its identified the correct car), right click and view source.
Then CTRL F, and search for VIN (its just after the 2nd search hit)
I got the VIN number and it came up as R56 LCI. Will have to wait and see what colour the dials are - but looking at pic of rear it doesn't look LCI to me. Read that LCIs have LED Rear lights and Reverse lights in middle fog...
I am really confused should I be worried that is pre-LCI? Being registered in September 2010 just seems odd that it isn't and of course VIN showing it as LCI when it probably isn't..
Just to update the car does have the silver buttonery and is a pre LCI. So the VIN number checker must be wrong for this one. Think I actually prefer the front bumper on the pre-LCI. But hope there isn't any other major changes that affect things.
Based on the last 7 of VIN the MINI was a July 2010 build, which was the last production month for pre-LCI models. It's possible the car could have been built with a mix of parts, like the pre-LCI interior and LCI (N16) engine.
I've also been trying to establish if my MINI Cooper R56 was LCI or pre-LCI. So many pointers from my research are conflicting the answer.
Built June 2010 = Pre-LCI
Centre consul - silver buttons etc = Pre-LCI
Reverse lights in main cluster = Pre-LCI
Front and rear bumpers = doesn't look like either!
Headliner - dark grey = Pre-LCI?
Mini HiFi system = Pre-LCI
Speedometer style = Pre-LCI
Adjustable colour ambient lighting = LCI
N16 engine = LCI
V5 says 90 kW (120hp) = LCI
Could it be a bit of both, built from a mixture of parts?? BTW, it's also got the wheel arch amber marker lights fitted but not wired-up.
