someone hit me!

sat at a set of traffic lights last night and someone ran into the back of me quite hard I thought. There was a large bang and when I got out I was expecting to see a large hole in my boot.

To my surprise there wasn't dent, I couldn't even see a scratch. The car that hit me, a N reg VW golf and a broken grill, broken badge and a shattered number plate. Exchanged details with the guy and plodded off home. This morning when I checked I could see a large scuff/scratch 30" long on my rear bumper. Fearing that in fact this could be hiding damage inside the bumper I rang up my local garage and they said bring it down now and we'll have a look.

Down at the garage I watched them hoist my mini up high as 2 mechanics inspected it, no damage done at all and they polished out the scuff/scratch completely. No charge, mini good as new, what a great service.

the end.

thanks
d

Wow, you are lucky. I have always worried about getting rear ended in the mini, there is not much room there.

The bumpers are designed to cope with mild impacts:

the 2.5mph bumpers has also been a concern of mine...and the IIHS average repair estimates for minor bumps is something I hope to never have to deal with. the first weekend after my car arrives, I'm doing the brake/fog-light mod...get that extra bit of visibility. What worries me most is that since I ordered my car, I started noticing that a large percentage of drivers along my commute to work are elderly drivers. Makes me nervous, especially after seeing one in front of me stop halfway into an intersection at a red light a week ago! I was soooo glad I had decided not to bother passing her earlier.

Hey there. Just wanted to say that I had a very similar situation happen to me two weeks ago in my six month old MINI. I was at a stoplight (stopped, of course!) and a big, nasty Dodge Ram rammed my MINI! He was going a good 45 mph and only hit the brakes just before the impact. Like you I thought that the car must've folded, but wow, this little car is tough! Damage is estimated at about $4800 (paid by his insurance, of course), but it just looks amazing...the damage is a dented/cracked fender, a broken taillight, and I have to get the hatchback trunk replaced because when the car was hit it was bent out of alignment. But from the front and even from the side, there is no way to tell that the car was even touched, and it is completely driveable. The best part about the situation was when the driver of the Ram asked me what kind of a car it was, and the police officer answered "You HIT a MINI." So now in addition to just loving this car, I love it even more because it is a safe ride.

Ha ha ha, well, that's the only way I could describe my initial fear after my little Mini was attacked by that big ol' bully of a Ram!

No pictures yet (it hurts me to look at it!), but I will probably take a few this week and try to post (even though I have the damage taped up to prevent rusting until the new parts arrive). Honestly it doesn't look as bad as the price sounds...expensive little parts on that car.
