Just an update...

Hello there, Mini2'ers!

Yes, I've been vacant for quite some time. Busy motoring, you know, and loving every minute of it! But I'm taking the opportunity to post a post-break-in update.

I am currently at 1337 miles, and very happy to be broken in finally!

A couple of days after I picked up my new Cooper, I noticed that there was a dead pixel in the bottom center of my nav screen. Also, within about a week, the nav screen started taking about 2-3 minutes to turn on. I read about the problem in faults and fixes, but I don't think it's cold weather as I live in SoCal. Also, over the weekend, I think my blower motor burned out, as I get nothing from the vents. I'm taking it in to the dealer today to have them sort things out.

Interestingly, a representative from MiniUSA called me yesterday to get my review on the car, and see how things were going. She was very nice, and I think a bit shocked that I gave the car a 5 out of 5 rating on quality, as well as on my overall satisfaction after telling her about the problems.

Anyway, I really love my Cooper! Never have I gone out of the way to drive friends and family around, but now I make excuses to go visit people! This car is all I expected and more. To all of you considering a purchase, put yourselves on the list NOW!!

Thanks for indulging me, I'll update all of you on what happens at the dealer today once I get back!

To continue the "just an update" theme, and follow up on my promise to update with details...

Well, turns out the nav screen is bad, and the blower motor is burned out. They ordered both parts, and expect them in a week. Since I had an appointment, and they didn't finish dealing with my baby in a timely fashion, they have promised me a loaner when I bring her in next week. Looking forward to that nice 5-series, although I'll miss the baby.

Igor does not like the idea of "Breaking Her In", Igor prefers the "Taming of the Shrew" where at the end the shrew did not need taming

Indeed, Igor, I must agree. The term "breaking in" does carry with it a harsh undertone. It is a much gentler process of taming, whereby both parties learn to work with one another in a mutually benevolent relationship.

Is it the Cooper who was tamed, or the driver?

Whoa...

Well, more news on my Cooper. I took her in to get the screen and blower motor fixed 2 and a half weeks ago. They had a look, ordered the parts, and I brought her back in last Thursday morning to have the parts put in. My dealership was nice enough to set me up with a 330i loaner (which is fun, but screams "family car"), which certainly is appreciated. The only problem is that they have had my baby since last Thursday, and still no word on when she'll be ready for pick-up. So far I'm looking at a total of 6 days to repair my nav screen and blower motor. Is this normal? It seems like it's taken them much longer than would be reasonable...anyone else have experience with this, or know how long it should take for these repairs? I miss my baby!!

I would give them a call and make sure everything is still running smoothly, maybe even stop by?

Hi MiniMan...thank you for the reply. I actually just got off the phone with them. Apparently they replaced the blower motor, but the replacement motor was abhorrently loud, so they had to order another one. That one should be in tomorrow and I should be motoring again tomorrow afternoon (or so they say).

Absence makes the heart grow fonder...of course, in the case of a Mini Cooper, presence does the same thing only better!

There is a widespread shortage of BMW mechanics, so much so that they are opening a school for them to boost their numbers. Those guys make up to $150k per year in income, for all those that are looking for work! That might explain the long repair times.
