Embarrassing MINI Cooper S Test Drive...H

So there I was - got a car on test for 24 hours and after blasting to work and back I'm sitting in front of the TV at 8 O'clock...

Say to wife 'do we need an evening paper? - I'll go and get one'... heh heh!

Pull out of my drive and pulling out right behind me from a side street is a New Beetle - all tricked up with wide wheels and an 'ironing board' spoiler at the back.

So far so good - I power off and wiggle through a few roundabouts and leave the VW for dust. I soon settle down and tootle up to the lights on a dual carridgeway.

Of course 'Ms VW' comes right up beside me. fair enough I'm not gonna race I sit there ready to slowly take off and let her do her own stuff.

Lights go amber and I couldn't help gunning the engine - VW thinks that I do want a drag race - shoots of and I...

fudge up the gears and manage to get 3rd ( or 5th maybe -I'm not used to it yet ) ...

And stall.

Result one red face ( me) and one VW on the horizon.

Forgot to say...

It was a Chilli Red MCS with 17" Silver wheels and a Union Flag on the roof - stood out like a lighthouse in a blackout...

That's what I like to call a "Benny Hill moment"

I can't remember the last time I stalled a car

Oh yeah, it was last year in my BMW automatic
The stupid sensitronic gearbox tried to second guess me
...and they say you can't stall an automatic

MINI, RX8 and MX5 - Done those............. It's now TTime

traffic light pullaways...

When I had my XR2, a favourite trick of mine when sitting at the lights was to rev the engine and pretend to shoot off (with the lights still red) - going about a foot before applying the brakes. Surprising how many people would shoot out across the red lights.

Alright I know it's dangerous, but then I was only 17.

A similar situation happened to me but on purpose.

I was riding in friend's full-sized diesel truck (which was tuned enough to quiver vettes in the 1/8th with consistent 14s in the 1/4) when a "rice-r" pulled along next to us. There is a certain entertainment to putting others in a cloud of thick diesel smoke. So my friend gunned it, and left the rice-r in a choking cloud of diesel (at night the cloud can block the headlights of cars on his tail...). FUNNY..

Anyway, the rice-r pulls along side us at the next light just PO'd curse-in furious. The size of our the truck blocked the rice-r from seeing the police squad car in the adjacent intersection. When the light turned GREEN, the rice-r was definently pressing harder on the gas than we were. But we new there was a squad car watching. I think the veins in that rice-r's head probably popped when he saw the lights. FUNNY

Thanks for that. Gave me a chuckle.

It reminds me of the last time I stalled, when there was a really nice-looking girl in the car next to me. We looked at each other, the lights changed, and I stalled the car. Whoops.
