On the way to work...

On the way to work just now I saw L-plates on a B/W Cooper S. Someone's lucky. That's just a tad better than the Corsa I learned in!

You want rubbish cars - I learned in a rusted out chrysler K-car. It had no power brakes. To stop the car I had to use both feet for the brakes to react. The strongarm steering was the worst I have ever driven. I don't mind non power steering but I can remember the steering on that car was brutal.

I live in Muswell Hill, but I saw the car down by Bounds Green station. At least someone's learning in style.

Can you imagine the insurance premium that they most likely will be paying.

Here in the UK "L plates" indicate that you are a learner and haven't passed your test. It means avoid them at all costs
We also have an optional green "P plate" which indicates that you have just passed your test and shows that you are inexperienced.
I think it's a great idea as it indicates to over drivers your competence/abilities

In Ontario Canada an "N" is suppose to be diplayed in the rear window. Signaling Novice driver. Not many drivers bother displaying it.

Don't supose theres much point in warning other drivers of a learner when all they have to do is drive an automatic in a straight line!!!

I learnt over a handful of years due to failure(s) and finance.

I learnt in a 1984 Vauxhall Nova, a 1985 Vauxhall Astra, a 1990 Fiesta and finally passed in a 1996 Peugeot 306 Diesel.

Inbetween I also drove in my Mum's cars - a 1981 Austin Metro and a 1987 Fiat Uno.

My first car of my own was a 1985 Vauxhall Nova 1.2, swapped for a 1991 Vauxhall Nova 1.5TD a year later. The next car was a late 2002 MINI Cooper.

I've seen loads of MINI Ones belonging to driving schools. Personally I learnt in a mini one (thousand cc )

Those were the days...

the MINI has gone...

There is a MINI ONE being used in the Edinburgh area as a driving school car.

I saw it, waved (of course) and the instructor waved back.

The pupil was concentrating too much on the traffic to wave though
