My brakes *sometimes* whistle while I brake slowly in traffic. I noticed that when it was -10°C...

My air blower *sometimes" whistles as well, usually when at setting 1 and on the highway. Weird.

if you've done a few miles, they may need changing. my front ones did at 21k. Red7's problem may be solved with some copper grease behind that pads... could probably get the dealers to look at that under warranty.

Yep, get the same noise when braking gently. Done 7500 miles so I'll get it looked at when in for the first service.

I think you're better off to ask who doesn't have squaky breaks, I think it's pretty common in Minis!!

I seem to remember reading somewhere that it is due to a larger % of metal in the brake pad. More efficient and all that, so they squeak at slow speeds.

Could be waffle but I believed it.

Very simple solution -- don't drive at slow speeds

Mine do this sometimes too, in cold weather and at very low speeds like in a parking lot. No big deal.

If it bugs you, pull the brake pads and put some anti-squeal goop on the back of the pads.

I dont know about squeeky brakes but does anyone have a loud whirring noise coming from the engine that dissapears when the clutch is depressed???? It is really annoying especially if a passenger hears it. If anyone has this problem and knows what it is please help.

I have some squeaky brakes too, I notice they only squeak when its wet outside and when I'm going very slowly and braking at the same time. Its not a super loud squeak, but I can hear it, and I only have about 7000 km on it.

I've had some squeaky brake problems recently (2,700 miles) when it's cold or wet out. I hope that's the reason and not that I'm having serious brake problems so early on!
Haven't heard the whirring that tenshipb mentions.

I also noticed an odd (more like a deep rattle) noise from my MCS this morning when I started it. depressed the clutch and it went away, released the clutch and it would be back. After driving for a bit, seemed to be gone completely though.

The squeaky brakes are common to all the MINI's. This is not a wear indicator, as it occurs on light to mild braking. If you ease-up, or apply the brakes harder, it stops. The simple answer is a high metallic compound brake pad.

Even magazines have complained about this on the MINI and other BMW's. The simple answer, is that BMW has never been afraid of a little squeak, or a little dust (ha, little), in their quest for very responsive, powerful and balanced brakes.

My brakes also started squeaking recently, but only when braking gently to a standsill.

The cure? go on a MINI run!

After I went on the Pennines 2 run they no longer squeak (must be all that sudden breaking and high revs driving over the Pennines!). In fact the car seems a bit faster and has a nicer sounding exhaust note since the run. Perhaps a blast over the Pennines now and again is needed to blow away the city cobwebs and clean the break discs?

its nothing to do with ur brakes its ur tyres. Let me guess u have 16'rims with the runflat tyre.... Correct?
There is a problem with the goodyear tyres they r slipping on the rim when u corner and this is because of the side wall composition is starting to FAIL....Another guess ,have u done between 18 and 22 thousand miles or have ur tyres only got about 3mm of tread left? If so its the tyre.
Now the bad news tyres arent a warenty item so dont even try and get them replaced.BMW will first pretend they know nothing about it then they will tell u to ****-off.

IS THIS A SAFETY CONCERN ??? REMEMBER FORD V FIRESTONE

My car is bollox
