Offline | It's a proprietary interface, that no one seems to know much about. Its being reverse engineered by a company that one of the mini2 members works at called http://www.ross-tech.com/, much like they did for VW and Audi's protocol. You can search for BiM-Com which is suposedly the name of the new product for the threads related to it. Magic 8-ball was correct. All be in awe of Magic 8 ball. |

| MINI2 Newbie | Reverse engineering is only illegal if you are going to try to make money off of what is developed. Atleast that is my understanding. Any way with regards to the OBD codes... I saw on Moss Mini and saw the Drive Right Data Logger, I wasn't going to spend $160 before I knew if it was going to work so I bought a cable to see if I could see the codes in the first place. I got the cable last night and spent an hour or so trying to get it working. Now understand the setup, my new laptop does not have a serial port so i have to use a USB to serial adapter. On sokme of the pages this is sited as a possible problem because of voltage drops in the adapter. But I was also using the adapter as a way to protect the laptop from and axcessive voltage that might leak through the OBD2 interface. I was using freeware OBD interface software from obd-2.com. The software would recognize the COM 4 position and I could see the data request go out but after about 2-3 minutes there would be no reply from the ECU. Any thoughts? I am going to try somemore this weekend with other freeware but I am thinking I might just have to breakdown and buy the drive right chip. |
