Windscreen repair or replace?

I too have problems with my windscreen, like Leece. Since March I've gained two rather large chips on my screen, both kicked up by large lorries on the M25. Are MINI windscreens a bit soft or am I just unlucky?

My question is whether to repair or replace it, i'm a bit loathed to replace it as the car is almost a year old. A guy near my home who runs a 'Chips away' service has offered to repair them for £15 - but he cannot be sure whether the repairs will work.

I have a deal with my insurance company to replace the screen for the cost of the excess, but I really want a genuine one to match the rest of the car - do companies such as Autoglass supply genuine glass. Should I have a non-genuine screen? How do I get hold of genuine screen (apart from MINI dealers)and how much are they?

Any replies would be appreciated.

G

P.S other moderators not sure if this topic sits well in General Discussion or not, but i'll move it if anyone has a problem.

I had my windshield patched by a local glass shop, and while they were doing it, they melted a pattern into the glass so I had to get a brand new windshield! Good luck!

It's depend on where/what kind of damage do you have. If your glass was crack like a small spider web, or you see there are some legs around the chip, or the chip is on the driver side, then you need to replace it. If it's a small ship located at the passenger side, then you can just repair it. But if I were you, I will replace it for sure. I don't want to take any risk that repair will make the chip worse. Also as Anand said

The insurance should pay for the whole repair cost, or you need to pay the deductible when you replace the glass.

a basic windscreen, with no options on is £116.01, plus fitting...plus you need to replace the seal at the top of the screen.

most insurance companies will pay for repairs anyway...i know mine do!
