United-States Navigation Voice Accent

Hello.

Sorry if this has been posted before but I can't find much info on it.

I just got my brand new Mini Cooper S 2003 this weekend. I live in the San Francisco Bay area. I was saddened to discover that the voice nagivation has an American accent. The dealer tells me that they used to have British accents but now they have American ones.

My friend tells me that the voice files are probably on the Navigation DVD that is in my car, so I'm hoping getting a British voice is as simple as replacing the DVD.

Is this true? how can I make my mini have a British accent?

Shouldn't be too hard to track down the information, this has been covered before. If memory serves you just have to have the dealer change the country code of your Mini to UK. Do a search on NAV in the Interior and ICE forum, I'm sure you'll track down the exact procedure.

I saw someone made reference to changing the country code to UK for the car.

Would this change anything other than the voice?

Not that I am aware of. Nothing strange in mine and it is definitely set to UK.

Why don't they put a sexy female voice on it? That would be something to listen to.

I will talk to my dealer about switching the country code when I take it in to install the alarm system.

I want to feel like James Bond, damn it!

It goes a long way in helping in that department. The Union Jack on the roof helps too :-).

I don't think that's a good idea....I would hate to stain the seats.

My advice... only get the sexy voice option if you have leather seats.

We don't have the Nav in the MINI (I wanted to preserve the center speedo) but we do have one in the Land Rover and I love that it has a British accent.

I especially love it when Alfred (my nickname for the synthetic voice) says "You may commence your journey". It's downright posh!

Is the MINI Nav "uppercrusty"?

Angry

My dealer didn't change the country code

I took my Mini in to get its alarm installed and I told them to change the country code to UK while they were at it. The advisor seemed confused by this, but he wrote it down anyway.

When I came to pick up the car, the advisor told me that the tech guys didn't change the country code.. They said if they changed it to UK, then the Clock and Radio wouldn't work because I have a US clock and radio (it's the harmon kardon sound system).. This makes very little sense to me.

Someone else told me that British radios increment by .9 rather than .2, so maybe there is something to this?

I seriously doubt the radio has anything at all to do with the country code the car is using. Time is reasonably universal in how it is kept :-). Next time it's in have them switch it and check. Can't be hard to change it back if the time suddenly doesn't work right.

Question

You said your OBC's country code was set to UK and you are in the US.. Your radio doesn't jump by .9?

Welcome Andy,

We are going to have a MINI meet on May 17, you might get more info by asking people there. Do you have an "accept" screen show up everytime when you start the car? Mine don't do that, but other MINI owner does. I have a CD base, and he has a DVD base, I'm wonder will that make a different. Also I read somewhere about if you switch the country code to UK, the "accept" will not show. And I really don't think the country code will mess up the clock and the radio.

Hope to see you at the next MINI meet.
