DIY Noise When Accelerating

I am experiencing a noise in my MINI ONE[b] after I start the engine and accelerates on and driving.
I am told, from our local MINI Service Garage, that the noise could be coming from the central locking system. They are saying that when one accelerates the car the luggage compartment lid and the fuel tank flap locks automatically according to the speed. They are also under the impression that the system remains locked till one of the doors is open.
This was tried but to no vain perhaps it all depends on the speed the four wheels are moving.
Can anyone help me especially if had the same experience.
I would like to know how the system exactly works.

If anyone would like to check if you have the same problem here is a step by step.

1 - Start the engine
2 - Close the windows and keep the radio switched off so that u can hear the noise well
3 - Accelerate, when u start to accelerate u should hear the noise on 1st gear on about 6/7 rpm. ( The noise should sound like central locking but much lower)

Thank you
Malcolm

There are two sounds when you get going which can happen close together or farther apart depending on how fast you accelerate. It locks the doors but also tests the ABS system which is a lighter sound but is perfectly normal.

Autolock is programmable and locks everything. If your car doesn't lock when you take off then likely you don't have it programmed.

Another noise you can hear, which should come from all wheels I assume, is the ABS self test. It happens, IIRC, a little sooner than the autolock, at about 10 MPH.

I agree with HarryIndiBlue on this one. I would be 99% certain that the noise you hear at 6/7 mph is the ABS test as the central locking doesn't operate until about 10mph.

I'm not sure about how the central locking operates on your car as different markets have different specs for these things. IIRC (to coin a phrase I saw somewhere), the UK models of your age MINI didn't have the central locking set up to lock on driving off, but it could be programmed by the dealer. Mine is a Nov. 2002 build and it locks all doors and fuel filler. Everything unlocks when the ignition is turned off, or you can flick the toggle switch with the ignition on. But as I said it may be different with your car. If you take it to the dealers they should be able to plug in their computer to find out how the system on your car can be programmed.

Hope that helps a bit
