Offline | Has anyone seen or used this? Stumbled across this site while looking for magnets. Theory seems sound, but anyone actually seen or used this? I thought it might be beneficial for those who are just running in their engine. http://www.superplug.com/home.html |

Offline | Its almost certainly BS. Consumer Reports runs tests on things like this all the time and they never work. If they did everyone would be using them. Besides, I strongly suspect that the engine in most cars will out last most of the other components, especially suspention related ones. Short of abusing an engine (something this won't save you from) I don't know anyone who has had their engine die on them it's always other things (clutch, transmision, suspension etc...) |

| MINI2 Regular | The lady who handled the delivery and tour of my new Cooper told me the oil pan in the Mini is magnetized anyway, for the same reason. I suppose that would negate the effect of the magnetized drain plug. Any truth to this rumor? ---Liam--- *Black and White Mini Cooper *White Wheels *Sport Package *Premium Package *CD Navigation *Clear Side Repeaters |

| MINI2 Regular | I've heard from folks that have changed their own oil that it is actually the Filter that has the magnetized part. In any case, magnetized bits in the oil collection system certainly can't hurt anything. I'd seriously doubt it prolonging the life of the engine however. With all the aluminium and alloys that are in modern vehicles, magnets would only pick up so much. |

Offline | Don't see the need for this item today !. My 1969 Cooper had one , and every time I drained the Oil , the plug was covered in Iron filing's !. Today's engines are much more refined and wear a lot less ! . In today's motoring it's the driver that suffer's !! . Go for a SPIN in your MIN and forget the engine !! . Lumspeed |

Offline | Lumspeed is right on. There are a lot of things to worry about in life, magnetized oil drain plugs are (is) not one of them. Go motoring and enjoy. A bit of magnetism will not make your aluminum engine last one minute longer. Tom 02 EB/B MCS |
