I've been in discussions today with my MINI dealership about replacing my MINI ONE which has been hopelessly unreliable. It is 18 months old (Sept 01 build) and has 18,000 miles on the clock so BMW aren't prepared to offer me a replacement car for free.
The deal I've been offered is a new car at cost price (about 7% off the list price of the car and any factory fit options I choose to add) and they've offered me £9000 in part exchange for my car. I'm perfectly happy with the extras I have on my current car so I'd be ordering the exact same car again this time (different colour obviously). With this deal the cost to change would be £2305.
Does this sound reasobale considering I've had 18 months wear and tear out of the car? If I were to wait, put up with my current car and change later on obviously the cost to change will go up as my car depreciates further so I can see the benefits of doing it now but I'd appreciate some opinions from other MIN2ers - especially those of you who have had experience of rejecting cars.
Sounds like a good deal to me. How much is your car worth? Can you find the Blue Book value (not sure if you use the same terms over there)?
I would also find the "cost" prices from a second source before saying yes, just to be sure.
They've offered me £9000 for my car (it was £11795 new) so that's still pretty low depreciation compared to other small cars of the same age. Good suggestion of yours about the cost price from elsewhere.
Thanks folks - it's good to have my thoughts confirmed by others who have gone through the same experience. I checked my car's price on Parkers last night and the figure they've offered me is about £120 over trade price so that sounds positive as well. Especially with the colour - I love the yellow but I realise some don't! All I have to do now is decide which colour to go for this time... any suggestions?!
I collect my no extra cost replacement s on monday. But a 2000 depreciation sounds pretty good considering you would not want to sell anyone else a lemon. Get indi blue with the aero kit or black yum yum yum yum yum.
Sounds good to me
But it also sounds like they're a little guilty ( or maybe that want to turn you into a satisfied customer which id good)
Remeber that BNW have spent millions on marketing the MINI - the very last thing they want is bad publicity from a disgruntled owner - they know that so don't be afraid of putting the squeeze on them a bit,
Dont loose this deal but accept it with an 'About Time Too!!' attitude - they might be scared enough to offer a few more goodies for free. - they will also be reading this mail - all the Mini salesmen regually tune in to MINI2.COM
Sorry about the slight pause in communications - have been driving my MINI round the country over the weekend!
Thanks for all the suggestions on colours and feedback on the deal I've been offered. It's good to hear everyone being so much in agreement! I'm pondering between the chilli red and BRG at the moment, with all the vrious chrome bits added. Shame they don't offer the bright metallic blue colour on the ONE yet as that'd be my first choice...
Thanks Ken! Took the plunge today and ordered my replacement car in red. Pretty much the same spec as before but I'm having all the chrome bits, including the door mirrors so it should look pretty smart I think! Just waiting to have the delivery time confirmed now... Thanks to everyone who gave their opinion on the deal I was offered.
