![]() I can feel it | Ridiculous!! Times change we move on & that sort of reaction does nothing for the human race never mind mini owners. Started me wondering how many classic owners browse this forum... some people own both don't they?? ![]() M2CB09 ~ It's a Golden Celebration |

| Now With More Cowbell | Adam, two fingers (index and middle) in a V with your palm facing outward is the peace sign; with the palm facing in it's a rude gesture (at least in England). I'm told it dates back to a French threat at Agincourt. French knights promised to cut off the English bowmen's fingers once captured (an arrow is drawn between the two fingers used in the V-sign). The French, through no small amount of hubris and bad luck, were pretty badly routed by the English. Thereafter, the two finger salute became a bit of an F-You taunt. That's the story I was brought up with. ![]() My advice to Dink is the same as always: kill 'em with kindness. If you're rude in return, it will only justify (in their minds) the enmity. Be polite, and they may be shamed into being less open idiots. -CW Global Moderator |

Offline | On a related subject I did see a window sticker that said I'd rather push my Mini than drive a BMW. Whilst I love my new mini I am honest enough to have misgivings about the way BMW did their best to destroy what was left of the british car industry. I bought my Mini despite it being a BMW rather than because of it. I am also well aware of the shortcomings of the original Mini but also aware that the new one will never last for forty years or have iconic status. It is however much much better than the re-invented beetle which is little more than a golf in drag. |

Offline | Hi all, what crap! Why do owners of the real Mini and the BMW still fight about the car? What nonsense! And I have every right to say that: I own real Mini Cabriolet, a real Mini Cooper, a real Mini Special and a BMW Cooper. All of them are great cars. The BMW is the best modern car money can buy in that class but in terms of fun I still say it cannot beat the real thing. But you get to like its air condidition and stuff on long journeys in summer... So, whatever you drive - the real or the BMW Mini: enjoy it and be sure the Twingo and Cinquecento drivers and all of the other shoebox owners out there envy you! Wolfgang Bruno Tarnofsky |

![]() MINI2 Master | Something similar was discussed here yesterday: The solution I liked best was to do a 'royal wave' at them! That's gonna really wind 'em up! My other option was to get some money out of my wallet and wave it at them Loads-a-money style!!! http://website.lineone.net/~paulhud/...oadsamoney.jpg |

Offline | I have been a lover of the classic mini for years and owned a couple to including a mayfair and 2 coopers (1 norm and 1 RSP) I would never be offesive to BMW MINI driver as its not them or there car I dislike but mearly BMW itself. Whoever that classic mini driver was I hope I can safely say he doesn't represent the majority of classic drivers! The words moronic goon (well actually my first thoughts were slightly more vulgar and began with "Insolent sad little F**k..anyhow)sprang to my mind about the classic driver when I read the original post. Don't be disapointed and do keep flashing...you'll get the odd a. r. s. e. but there will be a contingent of us who are still happy to welcome newbie MINI drivers to the club that loves the mini for its ideals, faults and quirkyness...and as a backup for my want to welcome you, the BMW mini does have some of the ideals and quirkyness of the classic mini at its heart. I myself am having to rid myself of my beloved mayfair to afford my BMW cooper, but you'll still see me splitting my time equally between the (kerphewy!! spit in disgust at myself for saying the word) Beamer and the classic coopers I have already purchased my saving grace in the form of a sticker for the rear window of the Beamer with "My other cars a classic Mini 1959 - Forever" on it. I have to say that for modern commuting the MINI beats the mini hands down but for fun and the feel of the road classics will always rule. Rock on MINI and mini is what I say!! I hope I see some of you soon around and about ....dont worry..I'll reverse the V sign and flash and wave whichever car I'm in! R |

| Awwww %%%% it! | I have experienced opposite reactions from classic drivers. There is a particulalrly obnoxious one around Northampton who has loads of BMW is cr@p type of stickers all over his classic and will always mouth it off at you and try to cut you up - a real nasty piece of work. Then on the other hand at a supermarket car park I had a classic driver park next to mine and hten come and have a look and chat at my Cooper - he left impressed and complimentary. Unfortunately in life there are always some prats, they are best ignored and treated with the contempt they deserve. ![]() |

Offline | Only too true Soggy I have to own up to the fact that I hate BMW and what they did to Rover/LandRover etc but well, business is business and would we be as bothered if it had been a UK car company that did Rover over and stole the mini name rather than a German one?! I have got stickers in my side windows of the mayfair and the rear of the RSP cooper which say "100% free of BMW parts"...as a protest about that whole Rover fiasco. I wear these proudly but understand BMW's want to get Rover for the most valuable labels it owned. I am waiting for the new MINI and am getting really excited as I love the idea of still having some of the mini charm packaged in a bigger and more modern (plus warrenteed) car. Quiet driving and comfortable seats are unfortunatly a priority for me as I grow up and have to commute to work every day...the seat of the pants thrill that classic mini gave me every morning is no longer viable for the miles I do and the future I will soon probably start leading with buying houses, getting married and having kids! I will always have a classic one for the playing around and love of the joy when overtaking unsuspecting big car drivers at high speed in my diddy rocket but time and bad backs (damn that bloody game called rugby!)catches up with us all eventually. The lure or electronic gizmos and safety features without having to bolt in a roll cage and harnesses/buckets is all to much. To any classic people out there...if BMW MINI waves/flashes then give em one back..they are still in the spirit of classic mini even if the car isn't quite upto the job! LOLs ![]() R |

Offline | The posting from richard Croft about sums it up 4 me. I loved the original mini and learnt to drive in one tho never owned one. I like both but the new MINI is better suited to my needs but I still have reservations about BMW as a result of their inept handling of Rover. |
