Offline | Stiff Susp + Bump + Foot on Clutch Has anyone else had some semi-embarassing moments due to this combination? Hope I'm not the only one. I was shifting into third on the way home tonight (in my MCS on 17s w/ Pirelli RFs) and hit a bump, which caused my foot to raise partially off the clutch in perfect timing to cause a lovely heart-stopping gear grind. ...also this was while right next to a BMW 3-series I was behind most of the way home. That was definitely a bit embarassing! Reminded me of a few lesser incidents I've had with releasing the clutch a bit quicker than intended on bumpy pavement.Funniest coincidence too, b/c today I just made an appointment w/ my dealer to check out my gearbox next week due to some problems...hopefully that incident left no signs of abuse. ![]() |

Offline | easier said than done with this car sometimes! Especially coming out of 1st...the engine really likes to hang onto its revs! A smooth 1st-2nd shift at anything more than a gentle start is still somewhat of a daily challenge. ![]() guess I'm the only sucker with a truly bad timing experience so far though ![]() |

Offline | My car used to bounce pretty bad over the bumps. Did you adjust the tire pressure. Mine were about 8 psi too high. It helped. I doubt the dealer will see any signs of the missed shift. Mike 2003 MINI Cooper S Chili Red 2005 Jetta GLI |

Offline | That must have been some pretty huge bump to mess up your gear change ![]() Sounds like you maybe sitting too far away from the clutch if you can't keep a decent presure on it ![]() MINI, RX8 and MX5 - Done those............. It's now TTime ![]() ![]() Unofficial MINI2.com bean counter |

Offline | Well, I didn't have much pressure on it at that moment as I was transitioning from depressing the clutch to getting ready to re-engage it...the bump just sped it up quite a bit more than I planned for...it was perfect split-second bad timing. However, you do bring up a good point!I've been struggling to find a good seating position since my MCS arrived a couple of weeks ago...seems like when I'm the "best" distance from the clutch, I'm too close to the accelerator pedal. So I kind of split the difference and have been changing it up every few days. I don't have to hyper-extend my leg to fully depress the clutch, but it is near the limit of where I'm able to do it comfortably.![]() |
