Unhappy Disappointed....

As many people may know, my Mini was in an accident, to make a long story short, my hood and lower bumper were replaced and resprayed by a body shop, along with the panel right below the windsheild.

My problem now is, from different angles, the hood scoop looks darker than the rest of the bonnet, and the part of the panel right below the windsheild (directly above the right side grill) is faded.

These two small things are just eating away at me on the inside. My question is, do I get the bodyshop who originally fixed and reprayed my hood, bumper... etc. to respray those panels again? Or should I just get Mini to do it? Does anyone know if Mini will do it?

Please help me, what should I do? Get the bodyshop to do it? Or get Mini to do it?

-MiniMan7

BTW, the body shop is a life time warranty, and I imagine Mini will cost a fortune.

Who do you suppose Mini will use? They'll contract it out to a body shop. I suggest you go back to the shop you used and have them do it right.

I agree, the bodyshop is responsible to repair it right.
I would also contact the insurance company's claim center and let them know/get them involved. That may give you more leverage. If it is a co. with a good name you will have less hassle.
Just be glad you aren't in Florida like I was when a similar thing happened to a previous car I had. (Florida is...well, FLORIDA.)
Best of luck to you.

Contact your insurance company tell them what the problem is and have them sort it. They paid a garage to fix it have them fix it. If it was not done wright the first time have them do it again.

Thanks for the input everyone. I think I'm just going to get the body shop to do it again, afterall it is free because they give a lifetime warranty. I'm just worried, I really don't want to start respraying panels, but it's killing me on the inside right now.

Anyone know what the colour code is for Electric Blue? I'm really not sure how they did it the first time, I mean the hood and bumper look and match wonderful with the rest of the car, just the hood scoop looks much darker, and the other spot is really faded. Anyone know if there is a certain number or something that Mini uses for the Electric Blue paint?

Thanks for everyones help.

You went to Carstar, right? They have a lifetime paint warranty against stuff like fading. It happens, and its unfortunate that you'll be away from your MINI again because of it but it shouldn't cost you anything.

So far, my IndiBlue paint job from last year looks fine. Will keep an eye on it though.

If you're coming up here again to Carstar, let me know. I can show you some fun roads in the region.

My scoop looks a different color than the car, but just from certain angles. I think it is just the different way the paint goes on metal/plastic

Harry, I don't think its that my paint started fading, but rather was faded right after they repainted that area.

Thanks for the offer, I'll keep you posted when I bring it up to Carstar. I'd die to see some more fun roads like Snake Road again.

Hmmm... That could be true, the scoop is plastic isn't it? Only thing is I don't recall this colour difference when I first picked up my baby.

Couldn't the sun fade the paint at different rate depending what the paint is applied to? IE. Plastic versus metal.

That could be so, but wouldn't we hear of alot more people complaining about the darkness of the scoop compared to the rest of the body?

I've heard others mention the hood scoop is a different colour, even without a respray. Just the nature of trying to match colour on two completely different materials.

If you make it up here I'll show you Ellis Road (ends at a cemetary ) and some others. If we ever want to have a SOMC meet 'west' it's worth a try. Some 'closed' roads right around my place too and my favorites from the way in to work (though many are dirt and gravel now which is only fun if you car is already very dirty -- were more fun in winter).

Ok I was just inspecting my car, and the one spot is definitly faded, and the hood scoop definitly looks darker from some angles in the sun. However, I noticed many stone chips all over the front bonnet, do you think I could get them to respray the bonnet too? The panel below the windsheild and the scoop are definitly going to be resprayed, hopefully I can get them to respray the bonnet too because of all the stone chips. Harry, you think they'll do the bonnet under warranty?

Sorry to rant...

I just can't stand all these stupid stone chips!!!! Let alone my darker hood scoop and my faded panel!!! I'm seriously thinking of investing in a bra for my car for whenever I go on the highway. I can't stand it anymore, my hood is killing me with all those stupid stone chips.

My question is, does anyone know where is the best place to get a bra for the bonnet and lower bumper? Keep in mind I have a front license plate. I know theres one at Moss Mini, but I don't think it fits with a front license plate. Please help.
