I have auto lock enabled, auto unlock disabled. Like it just fine that way. I view the double pull as just a fun quirk to the car.

Dave

Gotten anything useful from MINI2? How about giving a little something back?

Thumbs down

Yes, I do find it annoying!

I'd willingly trade the auto-locking doors for auto-up windows.

Ruthie,

My dealer told me the double pull was a child safety feature, and just so no one would fall out of the car if they accidently pulled the handle.

I like the auto-lock feature. I don't have the auto-unlock enabled and don't want it.

I don't think having auto-lock is being paranoid, it's being smart.

If its so easy to just double pull, or just hit the unlock button, then why not just hit the button to lock it if you're that worried about something? It's just as easy.

Exactly! Plus when I've driven cars with this feature I tend to forget that it has locked itself and unlock it when I think I'm locking it and then the do the reverse and so on. Hey, if you like the feature then I'm glad MINI offers it for you, but for the same reasons as MiniMan7 I find it annoying and would rather not bother with it. I'm more than perfectly capable of locking the doors myself when I see the need.

And those of us who like it are more than capable of unlocking the doors ourself if we see the need.

I actually look forward to the gentle 'clunk' noise when I hit 11mph

It reminds me of a London taxi when their doors keep locking and unlocking!

The only thing I hate about it is when I drop someone off and am not quick enough on the unlock toggle switch, they pull the handle - door doesn't open, so they pull it harder!

Ditto. Anyone other than the wife just panics when it doesn't open first time and goes into a pulling frenzy!

MINI door handle gets pulled once too often... and falls off. The end.

It unlocks when you stop, it unlocks if you have a crash, and it does increase safety so far as people grabbing things from your boot or diving into your passenger seat while sat at lights etc. Instances of which ARE sadly on the increase, at least in the UK.

Not quite when you stop. It only unlocks when you turn the engine off. I had this on a courtesy car I had for two days and it drove me nuts. My wife and I share the car and we pick each other up regularly. Having to hit the button to unlock every time someone wants in the car was a pest.

But... it's great that the MINI provides this option if you want it and not if you don't

I've read this thread and still confused Can one not just flick the switch on the console to open and close doors if you have a passenger who would like to get out???? This will even work if you are solo in the car and need to get out.
VERY easy to do on the stick shift cars as its finger tip distance away

And I thoought its meant to be a FUN car.. I don't even have traction control on ours so thats one less switch and more fun or did they install autolock on ours so i get kept in for more driving pleasure

Hehe, by stop I meant stop completely, and switch off, when you want to get out of the car (which is when the door being locked could be an issue, which I would switch off to do).

Yes, but you have to be quick. Most of my passengers start pulling before I can hit the toggle. I just start yelling...pull harder, Harder, HARDER!!...and kill myself laughing. Maybe my passengers are just anxious to get away from me.

I had the car reprogrammed to unlock when switched off, but I don't think this is a perfect solution. Unlocking when pulling up on the handbrake would be perfect, I think.

Just think...then I could pull the brake, induce a slide, reach over and open the passenger door with one pull and heave them out. Stopping to unload passengers is greatly overrated.

Shawn

you could also have a Sunroof and eject them at their destination...

I still find it hard to comprehend that people can not reach the toggle switch...

Ok here goes..... put the palm of your hand on the gear shift.. (stick shift knob/head for the people across the pond) and stretch fingers so the tips just manage to catch the toggle.... up or down and hey presto you'll here a click... nooooo thats not the clicking in your head that’s the sound of the door mechanism triggering the lock for opening and closing.

Wait let me go down and try this out myself....back in a mo.

I like the locking system and don't find it a problem. The kids know now that when I drop them off at school the door opens the second time they pull the handle or we flick the switch.
If I'm alone I usually lock the doors as soon as I get in the car I don't want to give anyone the chance of jumping in and pinching my handbag! It does happen
