Offline | air bags deployed I backed into a curb at about 8 mph.Rear drivers side wheel knicked, drivers side airbags deployed.Air bags deployed slowly, and I assume not fully. The two in the head area and the seat bag inflated, this will be one hell of an expense. |

Offline | That must have been one heck of a jolt. I did that once to a 1989 Honda Accord LX when I was in college. I forever damaged the aligment on that car. I guess you need to contact your insurance company. '02 MINI Cooper CVT On Order: 2004 MCS (Est production date: 9/5/03) |

Offline | Wow! That bites Keep us informed. Hopefully insurance will kick in. Also will be interested to know if it was a malfunction to kick in at such low speeds. Missing my buddies Dan and Ed but glad I have two angel buddies , And on a quest to Right Secco's Wrongs |

Offline | I didn't think that airbags deployed if the car was going backwards? Sounds tlike a design fault to me, especially if the airbags didn't deploy in the normal 'explosive' manner. |

Offline | There's no reason airbags would not deploy if you are moving backwards. They could still be required whether you are going backwards or forwards. Must have been just the right kind of jolt to set them off -- sounds like side bags only, not the front bags, right? Speed itself doesn't really have much to do with airbag deployment. It's the impact that matters. Anyway yeah, I think I'd be contacting my insurance company. Those airbags are going to be EXPEN$IVE to replace ![]() It's not unheard of for airbags to fire on such impacts. In fact a friend of mine has a Honda Civic and such a warning is included in the owner's manual. Specifically it warns that under certain circumstances the airbags could be deployed in severe abrupt impacts, such as large potholes. |
