Mini will offer rear fog lamp in not too distant future

By JOHN D. STOLL

Mini will get a rear fog lamp in the not-too-distant future, says Jack Pitney, head of Mini’s U.S. operation.
Big deal?

Well, it is to 729 signers of an e-petition (petitiononline.com/MINIfogs) irked over a disabled fog lamp that dresses the Mini’s rear end.

Europe gets the working edition of the lamp, but U.S.-spec cars are lacking the switch and software to activate the light. Pitney says all U.S. Minis, new and used, will get rear fog lamps.

I just hope all manufacturers don't start doing this. It will suck to be driving behind someone who has their rear fog lights switched on in a clear night.

Hello christockos, welcome to MINI2.

Usually, you'll find MINI news and information posted here before anywhere else, including the larger general motoring publications (not always, but usually).

Even if it's not posted here first, it's picked up and discussed by our eagle eyed members pretty quickly!

The rear foglight issue has been discussed a lot on here in the past week. A quick search will get you more results, but try these threads for starters:

http://www.mini2.com/forum/showthrea...threadid=31271

http://www.mini2.com/forum/showthrea...threadid=18602

There are more, but a search will bring those discussions up if you want.

But it will be very nice Andrew not to get rear-ended on a foggy day.

I want my rear fog lights!

Dave

Gotten anything useful from MINI2? How about giving a little something back?

DON'T KNOW WHAT ALL THE FUSS IS ABOUT. THOSE REAR FOGLIGHTS ARE NOT THAT BRIGHT, CERTAINLY NOT BRIGHT ENOUGH TO BE CALLED FOGLIGHTS. I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO TRACE THE WIRES SO THAT I CAN MAKE THEM COME ON WITH MY DAYTIME FRONT RUNNING LIGHTS. (THEY ARE THE LAW IN CANADA)

BUT SINCE THIS IS CANADA, YOU WILL SEE EVERY CONFIGURATION OF DAYTIME LIGHTS IMAGINABLE. I FIGURE IF IT IS SO IMPORTANT TO HAVE LIGHTS ON THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE ( AND I THINK IT IS ) AT ALL TIMES THEN IT IS EQUALLY IMPORTANT FOR THE REAR.

LOOK AT IT THIS WAY. MOST HEAD ON COLLISIONS ARE CAUSED BY ONE OR BOTH VEHICLES CROSSING THE LINE. VIRTUALLY NO REAR-ENDERS ARE CAUSED THAT WAY. THERE WOULD BE NO HEADONS IF BOTH VEHICLES STOPPED. THERE WOULD BE NO REARENDERS IF BOTH VEHICLES STOPPED. A LITTLE BRIGHT LIGHT AT THE REAR END MIGHT DISUADE PEOPLE FROM TAILGATING.

ON MY LAST TOYOTA VAN (PREVIA) FRONT AND REAR LIGHTS CAME ON WITH IGNITION AT REDUCED BRIGHTNESS. I HARDLY EVER PUT THE LIGHTS ON FULL BORE. MY CURRENT TOYOTA SIENNA ONLY HAS FRONT DAYLIGHT LIGHTS, SO I LEAVE IT ON PARKING LIGHTS AND CAN TURN THE IGNITION ON AND OFF WITHOUT A STUPID WARNING TELLING ME TO TURN THEM OFF. I DON'T DRIVE IN THE DARK VERY OFTEN.

MY WIFE'S PATHFINDER HAS DAYTIME FRONT LIGHTS. SHE OFTEN DRIVES OFF IN THE MORNING IN HAZY OR FOGGY WEATHER WITH NO REAR LIGHTS SHOWING. IF SHE PUTS HER PARKING LIGHTS ON FOR REAR ILLUMINATION THEN SHE MUST TURN THEM OFF BEFORE SHE PARKS. THIS IS REALLY VERY STUPID CONSIDERING HOW FAR NORTH CANADA IS.

MAYBE THE REASON FOR ALL THIS IS THAT OUR POLITICIANS AND SENIOR BUREAUCRATS SPEND THEIR WINTERS DOWN SOUTH. THAT'S IS WHY OUR PREMIER WAS ARRESTED FOR DUI IN HAWII. I THINK HIS BLOOD ALCHOHOL CONTENT WAS .24.

IF ANYONE KNOWS WHERE THE JUICE IS CUT OFF FOR THE FOGLIGHTS LET ME KNOW, I WANT THEM TO GO ON WITH MY IGNITION.
JIM

2NDONE you're typing in all caps, its not a big print issue, its an all caps issue. All caps is yelling. If you need larger text, you should probably use the text size adjustment in posts, then it will just be larger, and no one will accuse you of yelling.

Also, most of the information on rear fogs and how they work is in the threads Paul linked in post #3, that should answer your questions.

Magic 8-ball was correct. All be in awe of Magic 8 ball.
