Bluish Tint

Now, I considered myself a pretty decent internet researcher, but golly-gee if I can't find any information onBlue or Bluish Tinting for our soon-to-arrive MINIbaby.

Would anyone out there, anywhere, be willing to look around? Release the hounds!

We're going to have DS/B & I think the bluish windows Mercedes uses on their higher-end models looks quite smart.

I know Mercedes or AMG actually blends their glass that bluish color, so it's not really a tinting, - but I can't remove our windows & send 'em to Mercedes obviously.

I just thought I'd ask.

If anyone is good enough with Photoshop to blend-in the color schemes I'm talking about I think many of us would really enjoy the results, - that is, if we can then find the film-tinting.

[Of course, I'll take the tint to a fine installer for the work, but I can't even find it!]

ok-
Thanks in advance all. Really!

Well, first I would call around to a couple of tint shops and see if any of them carry or could get a blueish tint. I have seen a multicolored tint around here (Austin,TX).

If not, I found a couple of spots:

Hope it helps.

TO rob_lewis: Wow man. You're a No-*****-Sherlock! I haven't looked into them yet, but if those all offer a blue tinting, I'm a bloomin' Homer!

TO nfo: I'm glad to hear at least one other has relished in "bluish window thoughts!"

Now, having called a few shops & spoken to a few who know their stuff, - it looks grim.

Here's what they said about the blue tint:
1) BLUE is "dyed-color-film" meaning = poor quality, very thin substance

2) BLUE turns/fades into PURPLE within 6 months if the car sees ANY normal sunlight

3) BLUE films are very expensive

4) BLUE films do not offer a warranty, as everyone knows they fade or dis-color before any warranty period would end

5) No professional installer near me will put BLUE film in, as they don't offer it, - buying it elsewhere & bringing it to them to do still means they must offer some warranty & they just will not gaurantee the BLUE

Only #2 really gets me, as I can't motor with PURPLE. I'm still looking into it. But, the kind owner of 1 Eclipse Window Tinting Co. seemed to know the low-down & seemed to want to offer it, but wouldn't based on lowering their standards in so doing.

Keep up with any suggestions, all. Pleases.

Yeah, SugerBelly, I am not suprised about the fading. Here in Texas, if you don't get tint that is colored with metal flakes, it will fade to purple withing 6 months...

The link I provided was a company that offered only a one year warranty. 3M is a tint providor (and one of the ones that most tint shops use) and offer a lifetime warranty.

You might want to search 3M and see if they have something. I am not suprised by the tint shops reactions that they don't recommend it because of poor quality and fading.

I'll see if I can hunt something down for you. (No, I don't, nor have I ever, worked at a tint shop. Just a Texan, so tint is important to us.)

SugarBelly,
I'll let you do the leg work on this. I found a couple of tint companies. You should contact them and see if any offer a blue tint. I don't know whether or not it would work, but you might want to query about commercial applications also. Might be a better quality tint and offered in colors. (Don't know how easy it would be to apply or what the light % would be, but they could tell you.)

Have fun. And, please let us know what you find out!

Thanks again, rob_lewis!

I'll continue the hunt, though it seems a lost cause.
