Offline | One of the (slightly) embarrassing things about the MCS is its crappy mileage figures, especially for a car its size. Here's some reliable data from the Edmunds.com long term test of the MCS: Current Odometer: 18,496 Best Fuel Economy: 23.7 mpg Worst Fuel Economy: 18.4 mpg Average Fuel Economy (over the life of the vehicle): 23.2 mpg This matches my own mileage in driving the way you describe yours. I try to cheat by taking longer trips on weekends! But its all worth it! Even if you have to drive it like a Prius on weekdays. (But I be you can't.) '03 MCS, black / black, 16" Wheels |

Offline | Edmunds is a US site so it's definitely US gallons and US miles. I hope you guys have bigger gallons or shorter miles. Hawaii has a Union Jack on its flag, but is currently a suburb of Los Angeles. '03 MCS, black / black, 16" Wheels |

Offline | UK miles are the same as UK miles -- but the Imperial gallon and US gallon are definitely different. 1 US gallon = 0.8327 UK gallon. + 2002 MINI Cooper S - Dark Silver / White roof, Sport, Premium, Lapis blue leather + 1965 Mini Traveller - Tartan Red / White roof, 1275, Cooper S discs, fully restored/renewed |

Offline | Math! 1 US gallon = 0.8327 UK gallon which means that 1 Imperial gallon = approximately 1.20091 US gallon So... if a MINI gets 35 miles to a US gallon, that's that same as approximately 29 miles to a UK gallon. 35 (US mpg) *.8270 (value of a UK gallon compared to a US gallon) = 28.945 UK mpg or 29 (UK mpg) * 1.20091 (value of a US gallon compared to a UK one) = 34.83 US mpg + 2002 MINI Cooper S - Dark Silver / White roof, Sport, Premium, Lapis blue leather + 1965 Mini Traveller - Tartan Red / White roof, 1275, Cooper S discs, fully restored/renewed |

Offline | Hey BruceK, I think you got it backwards. If a UK gallon is BIGGER, then you should be getting MORE miles per US gallon. Take the US gallons and divide by .8327 (remember the decimal point) to get miles per UK gallon. So 20 miles per US gallon = 24 miles per bigger UK gallon. Of course, I may be totally confused, but at this point no more confused than poor Richy! What the heck Richy, just go ahead and order your S, and we'll figure out the math later! Offline | I have been logging my fuel use pretty accurately and keeping a record of it. I have attached a graph of my fuel use over a 10 month period. The red in the line is where I was using standard unleaded. The blue line is super unleaded. All fill-ups have been using ESSO petrol. I do a mix of country lanes, dual carriageway and about 10 minutes of sitting in traffic per day. The aircon is on about 50% of the time. The huge blip in march was a weekend trip to cornwall. The airconditioning was on the whole time. |

Offline | Well, I decided to put some super unleaded from sainsbury's into my mc last week, as the price had come down to 80p a litre. I have been getting 350 miles from a tank normally, but this time I got 415 miles before the red light came on. That's doing a 35 minute drive to and from work, using country lanes, dual carriage-way and in town roads. And I do take it over 4000rpm when accelerating, but I stick to below 80mph! I always stick a couple of extra litres of petrol into the tank after the petrol pump automatically stops, as otherwise the fuel gauge doesn't indicate full. Sometimes I've got almost another 5 litres in. If you give it a lot off oomph, the figures do start to come down quite quickly. Sonic |

Offline | Richy I went from a Pug 306 DTurbo getting around the 40MPG to a Cooper. The Cooper with Aircon on all the time used to get 32MPG on the same Route and driving style. (a mix of local town and country road's.) I've now got an MCS and again driving the same roads I get about 27/28MPG. In the MCS I've had 33MPG driving like my Mum, down to 23MPG Driving like the Devil Hope this is of some help to you. The above were all calculated using the fill to empty method. |

Offline | Hell I got 308 miles out of a tank of gas ALL in town driving and lots of "aggressive" driving! The OBC showed 37miles remaining on the tank when I filled up. I think that is GREAT gas milage, especially considering the way I drive the car. Mr Whoa Everytime you mod a Mini a VW cries. *WARNING! Looking at my gallery has been known to cause brain damage* |

Offline | The MCS is not the car to worry about petrol, although it is important. I will say that it is a thirtsy little thing but total fun, woth every penny. Try Shell Optimax (80.9 - London) - good luck |
