"have to" and "good practice" are different things. explain more clearly the problem you are having. If the engagement point is right at the floor thats not normal.
I was just asking as I have drive quite a few cars, but I only ever had to touch the clutch a little, to change gear, with the mini I have to press the clutch right in, to change gear. As the car is 10 years old, would a new master cylinder and slave cylinder be an option?
It's a good idea to push the clutch in anyway regardless.
