So I've booked my clutch to get fitted on the 12 hopefully all goes well. Now it's a specialist doing the work, should I be asking them any questions etc before and after the work? Just in case they try and say bits need doing etc. As it's my first car, and I'm still all new to mechanics
Thanks Sean. I will see what they say when I drop the car off Monday, as they will give the car a check over whilst doing the work. I was keen to get the master and slave cylinder replaced.
I would opt to change the engine seal. It's better to do it at the same time with your clutch. If this fails overtime your up to the same cost and that for a peace of 80 euro's.
Hmm suppose I could ask that. I just don't want something to fail after spending all that money on a clutch. Don't mind doing it myself. What would be the areas to look out for so I can check myself.
You only change parts if they need changing. Regular brake fluid changes will preserve your master cylinder and other brake and clutch components. Its when you neglect the fluid the problems begin as over time brake fluid absorbs water and this rusts the internals which leads to failure. It all boils down to my famous saying "Preventative Maintenance"::wink::
Just the Main seal when doing the gearbox as Mother Hen has already said but seeing as they are specialists I'd imagine that they would be replacing this too. Might be worth dropping it in to the conversation when you drop it off by saying to the bloke "I take it you will be changing the main seal too while the engine/box are split?"
Thanks lads. I will drop that in, worth asking what oil they will be using etc? I can't see them using rubbish but you never know. I've still got to wait for my trolley jack to turn up. Somehow got lost.
Only thing is the oil that Sean recommended they sell it in 1L only so will get that from ebay. What's the difference between the spark plugs they sell?
Rob, check your messages as I've previously sent you the oil and plugs location. The OEM oil is £21.99 and the NGK plugs are about £26 and you will get the OEM oil filter for about £11. You can chuck a paper air filter in it for about £8 from the motor factors or buy a KN filter for about £35
So my Mini has gone in today to get the clutch replaced. Needs a new engine seal and flex bolts which are £30.
