Offline | OK, bit bored at work today, and as I've got a Mini Cabrio on order for Spring 2004 I thought I'd throw open the mailbox for your ideal specification. I'm trading down from a Lexus LS400 and have to say I'm used to a bit of luxury, but at the same time I don't like throwing money away on unecessary options. ![]() Apart from the colour (RED) I haven't made any decisions about the spec - obviously not under any time pressure either! So, over to you. With money no object, what would you spec on a Mini Cabrio? Thanks Nick |

Offline | Ah! He said the magic words: "money no object". ![]() Go for max performance: MINI Cabrio S, John Cooper Works kit, Brembo brakes fore and aft, Koni (or Spax or Bilstein) dampers, strut tower brace, stiffer (though not neccessarily lower) springs, stiffer suspension and steering bushings all around. Opt for the lightest possible wheel/tire combo, which might mean sticking with 17" diameter alloys. And if you really want to get rid of that annoying excess cash, have the motor fully and properly "blueprinted" by the folks at JCW: piston/rod pairs all carefully matched to within tiny fractions of a gram of each other, "cc" the head for exactly the same volume at the top of each cylinder, hand-match the intake and exhaust manifolds to the head, etc. |

Offline | Don't know who your dealer is, but my dealer (ELMS of Bedford) took my order last September - still got to spec the model and options, but they confirmed I would have the 7th cabrio that they get allocated. Quite fancy the John Cooper Works route, but want to wait to see how stiff the structure is once the roof is removed -understand the JCW can be done as a retro to the car. Sat Nav any good on the Mini? Lexus is has touch sensitive (Oooh er) colour screen nav which is very good - what's the Mini one like? Thanks for your input so far! |

Offline | Even though i like Bino's Idea's. one thing needs to be known first. Are you looking for all out performance or comfortable ride and Luxury? Also is this to be a one shot deal from the factory or are you going to do as Bino suggest and change just about everything. As for the Nav system I dont know about the sensitivity but IMO i dont like the Square peg in the round hole look. For me since im doing mainly like Bino's suggestion. I went completely basic with exception of the Aircon. Why pay extra for stuff that your going to replace. 02 MCS DS/W (Totaled November 02 on Fall Folage Run) 03 MCS DS/W (See my MINI Profie for extensive list of mods) |

Offline | In reply to your question about performance or comfort - probably comfort first - Just got caught speeding this morning (second time in 2 weeks - and the first time was the first time in 15 years), so suddenly not that bothered about the performance ![]() Just want to have a bit more fun on the daily commute into work without spending too much money on the car, maintenance and fuel!
