Closing Windows

Recently got my Cooper and I seem to recall hearing that the windows would automatically close when I lock the car. Is this the case or was I just imagining it because it doesn't seem to do it on mine!!!!

If you hold the key in the lock position, the windows (and sunroof if you've got one) should close.

All the best.

Nah. You can open the windows/sunroof with the remote, but in order to close them you need the key in the door.

No-can do i'm afraid!

the remote can open the windows when you press and hold the unlock button - comfort opening.

But the reverse is not possible ie with the lock button.

As Bonjour said - to close the windows with the key you physically have to turn the key in the drivers door handle!

I suppose it at least saves you from having to put the keys in the ignition and pushing the toggle switches up!

oh OK, so I can open the windows with the remote. Now picture this, to test the theory I've just done it from the second floor of our office and as you said, my windows have opened.

Coooool....

But now I have to go downstairs to close the damn things....

The reason you can not close the windows and sunroof with the key is because, there is no window frames to put sensors on to tell windows when to stop if something is trapped when window is going up. Otherwise injuries would be common from kids or Adults getting there hands trapped etc in windows. (So I was told) anyway

I can close my windows with the key in the door held in the lock position (Feb 02 Canadian Launch Edition).

I was surprised to find out that the sun roof closes with one touch of the switch. The windows don't do this because they lack sensors. I don't think the sun roof has sensors.

My windows close with one touch of the switch! Do we know whether they can programme the windows to close via the remote key fob.

This would be quite handy for me as I've had to go downstairs 4 times this afternoon to close the things.

I can't stop doing it!!!!

UK - Windows have auto-close from the switch
No. America - No auto-close

It is a safety/liability issue. The sunroof auto-closes to the vent possition, then it is a manual close from there to avoid the pinch-point.

So let me get this right. If i hold down the unlock button on my key fob it should open my windows?!

But not for longer than 5 seconds or the boot will open!

Im confused.

they're mutually exclusive options...you either have the comfort opening (windows & moonroof) or can pop the boot open. Not both. Sounds as if yours is programmed to do the latter.

Ahh...now I'm confused too.

I can press once & open the Driver's door.
Twice to open Both doors & boot simultaneously.
The 3rd is a hold-it-down-consistently press, which opens windows & the pana-sun.
?right?

The windows aren't one-touch up for the simple fact that there is no frame for the windows, and if someones hand was in the way it would simply just chop it off.

Although Europe offers one-touch up for the drivers side only because they figure the driver will realize not to put their hand in the window or something.

my 03 cooper (uk) has one touch down on both windows, one touch up on drivers side only, hold the remote unlock and both windows open, lock with key and keep it turned and both windows will shut. IMO if you can have the passenger window shut when you turn the key in the lock, then it would be even safer to have a one touch shut operated from the drivers seat, closer and 'more in control'
