I think it only effects new cars registered on or after 1st April 2017, pretty sure older cars carry on with the same tax band.

A wonderful thing is Google, Google's a wonderful thing.
VED remains the same as it is now for cars already registered.
The AA
Cars first registered before 1 April 2017 will continue to pay car tax under the old system.
Vehicle excise duty | Car tax band | AA
Auto Express
What do 2017 road tax changes mean for cars already registered?
Current road tax bands won’t change for cars that are already registered, so the existing VED bands will remain in place - meaning cars registered before April 2017 will continue to pay the current VED rates even after the new VED bands come into force.

My R50 is coming off the road at the end of this month as the MOT will be expired and it won't be getting re MOT'd until the summer at the earliest

Sasquatchuk, a 2003 Cooper S is Band K. Single payment, up front at start of year is 295. If you pay by Direct Debit monthly for 12 months it comes to 309.75. Which is presumably how you are paying it to get that 309 amount.

Yeah mine is 210 for 12 months Sean. Rather high, its due to the emissions.

Scary to think about road tax time coming around, that's why I try to get my customers to check their obligations when they are signing up to finance their car so they can budget their payments moving forward. But the mini tax still rather decent in comparison to a lot of other cars on the road I should think. I've been thinking though whether we would save much money if the mini went electric ... (Or is that a blasphemy to mention in here)
