United-Kingdom Factory Tints.. another stoopid question

Sooo many options....

I have ordered my MC with the factory tints (rear 3 windows), but have a couple of questions

1) Has anyone else gone this route ?
2) General opinions (does it look odd not having the fronts tinted) ?

Im just a bit worried about it looking odd. The dealer did offer to do full tints aftermarket for £300 which are guaranteed for 3 years - not using the standard rear tints, as the colour is slightly different (they are all film covered - to legal standards).

So, pay £100 and get rear three done, or pay £300 and get all windows (except windscreen) done with film.

HELP!!!!!

for starters £300 is too expensive... £200 would be the right price for a similar tint, same warranty etc. Also, it doesn't look that bad factory tint as it's not that dark, quite subtle.

Whilst Im asking stoopid questions..... if you have film covered windows, do they fit it to the outside or the inside of the window ?

inside... you shouldn't notice the film though if it's done properly

I have had after market tints from tintacar.co.uk and they were very good. All windows for about £250. My only quible is that, the film doesnt stick well to the dot-matrix effect on the back 3 windows so leaves an outline around the glass which looks crap and also has made my front windows sqeak when putting them up or down if it has been raining. Other than that, they look awesome on my DS/W MCS!!

You can improve, (but not completely eliminate), that problem. As you probably know, its the height of the "dots" that lifts the film off the glass.

Take a soft cloth, and gently apply pressure on the tint film over dot-matrix pattern. You should see some improvement as some of the gap between the film and glass is reduced. I pressed pretty hard on my car's windows to correct the adhesion around the dot-matrix not long after the tint job was completed. It's been almost a year now and it still looks good.

Smile Factory Tints

We had the factory tints on our Cosmos Black MC and I don't think it looks odd.
You can see for yourself on our Gallery here

and if it keeps coming back, you can seal it with clear nail varnish I think... I never tried it though

I saw the rear tints at the dealers today with the fornts done to match and it look fantastic. Thats what im having done, only £90 for the fornts to match and the rears are actually tinted glass and thereby avoid the dot matrix effect

MrsAddman, gallery looks great, that definately helps with my original choice which is the factory tint on rear 3 windows.

Cheers.

Maybe too late but here's my two pence worth!:
I had the factory tints because I didn't like the 'dot' effect as described. Before I picked up the car the dealer took it to Pentagon to have the front tints done. They are slightly lighter to be legal but difficult to notice. A friend of mine got aftermarket tints because she didn't like the idea of having different tints front and back and now wishes she'd gone the same route as me!

Jeremy, that was also my thinking, I wont bother with the fronts initially - but can always get them done later.

Cheers.

Mine has the factory tints, take a look at the gallery, I think it looks smart. I decided upon it when I saw such a lot of them with it in San Francisco

PW One, Mod/Target roof, Privacy glass, 16" 5 stars, Xenons, HL washers, Heated mirrors/Washers, Chrome pack/mirrors, Red/Black interior, 3 spoke MFSW, Visibility pack, H/K, ASC+T, Alarm.
