Touchless car wash.

This morning I pulled into a touchless car wash to wash my filty MINI and pulled out just as dirty. After sticking $4.00 in the machine, I slowly pulled forward onto the ramp and went over it then I backed up and it still did not detect the car. I pulled around and stuck another $5.00 in the machine and repeated the same steps as before and still nothing. It seems as though the car wash did not detect my car at all. There was a truck in front of me that didn't seem to have any problems at all, so I don't think it was broken. Anyone else have similar problems?

Question

Excuse my ignorance, but what exactly is a 'touchless car wash'? (Assuming it doesn't involve touch, is it any wonder your car did not get cleaned!?!)

A touchless wash is one that uses jets of water - not brushes or fabric strips - to clean the car.

Be forewarned that not all touchless washes live up to their billing. My MCS was damaged in one back in December.

The car is cleaned with soap and high-pressure water - no cloth or brushes touch the car.

ahiltunen, I think those washes are triggered by your wheel hitting something in the rail system. You must not have hit it. And you shouldn't back up. You might tear off a suspension bit.

Did you report this to the management?

I will only use touchless washes in the winter when it's too cold for a hand wash. And then, I always slect the under-body wash to get some of the salt off.

I stopped by the car wash on my lunch break and had a chance to talk to the management. According to them you have 90 seconds time to pull up to the car wash after inserting your money into the machine. If you do not do this the machine will time out and not wash your car. I know for certain I did not take longer than 90 seconds. After getting my money back I tried one of the other bays in this smae car wash and didn't have any problem. Strange.

I'm glad you got your money back, I'm glad you got your car washed, and I'm glad you didn't have any problem.

But you should really hand wash your car. It will last longer, and you'll be happier with the results.

Where in the sales brochure did it say you could use a Mini to plow the garden with? Come on now, the Mini isn't a little SUV!

Must be something faulty with that bay. I've used a lot of touchless washes (can't wash cars in my apartment buildings garage) and never had that happen.

It couldn't be caused by the short length of the MINI not registering with the car was sensors, could it?

Thanks!

I wish there was one closer as I live in Livonia. You would think there would be several around. Could the one in your area be part of a chain?

Thanks

I think touchless car washes will strip the wax off your car and I don't care for high ph soaps being apply to my car.
