spare tire is not standard?

I did a search for this subject but couldn't find something so here I go: how come the spare tire doesn't come standard with the Mini Cooper?

Not so. You get a can of sealant and a pump as standard.

Neither does the boot size explain the lack of a standard spare. The optional spare does not take up boot space but is stored under the car I believe.

But I can't answer the question as to why MINI chose to go with the tyre sealant rather than the space saver spare. Was it just down to small savings in cost and weight or do they figure most people can't change a tyre these days.

It is a nice line to tell your friends. "You can tell MINI are owned by BMW, everything is an optional extra - even the spare wheel!"

In the US, you get a spare on the Cooper with regular 15" tires and rim (The spare is installed under the boot area of the car). You also get a spare even if you buy a Cooper with 16" 5 star rims with runflats. You can't get a spare tire in the Cooper S for obvious space reasons.

So our Canuck friends don't get a spare, period?
