BRGreen - Hard to clean!!!

Is it me ?

Although I love my BGR beauty - and it does look good

I notice after a few days its is covered in dusty spots that really show up - if it rains and then the sun comes out it looks dusty straight away.

Is it the MINI shade of dark green???

My wife has a Pine Green Audi - (dark metallic as well ) - no problem.

I used to have a Tourmaline (dark metalic ) Green Merc - again no probs.

is BRG hard to keep clean ( like black ) or am I going mad???

It's bad for dirt showing. Worse than my roomies dark blue Hyundai. My dark green Plymouth Fury, though, is about on equal footing for dirt showing up. About the only thing worse is black. On the other hand, it looks SO sharp when clean, I tend to forget about the effort of getting it there.

The wheels are what really get to me. I need a better brush. V-spoke: Looks sharp, gets dirty easy.

I too, have a BRG Cooper. Mine has the black roof and that thing is a dust magnet! I have one of those car dusters that really seems to help remove the dust. I just got the car, so it still has the dealer prep wax job on it. I still need to do a Zaino Bros. job on it and that should help removing the dust.

Every car I have owned up to this one was black. After that, my Cooper seems EASY to keep clean!

I'm just wondering if you guys can get California Dusters over there? These things are a very easy way to get the dust off and keep the car looking good between washings.

And no you're not crazy dark green cars are tough to keep looking clean otherwise.

don't sweat the dirt, enjoy !!!

I got a BRG because it was one of the two colors of the original Mini rally cars. Recently, I was checking out some back roads and a few got a little more off-road than I had expected. When I got home, the MINI was covered in mud and it looks so cool I didn't wash it for a week. On a trip to Scotland, I saw a yellow MINI that looked as though it had just run a rally. These are great cars to drive, enjoy the "battle scars" of great motoring.

Mine does the same thing, especially the boot & hood.
It gets a wash 2 times a week (1 auto, 1 by me) & Mother's wax if I get the chance.
But hey, at least the MINI comes in a washable size!

I agree with all of the above statements about the BRG being a dust/dirt magnet. When my MINI is clean, it is simply beautiful, but a real dirt magnet.

Gotta be Silver ( not Dark Silver although that is better than Black or BRG )

Most dust seems tob be grey coloured so Silver hides it - mind you in Devon where the mud is red...

It does seem too show the dirt pretty quickly but I wouldn't have any other colour - sure I'm biased but it doesn't stop me being right

BRG may be a dust magnet but I bet my black dust magnet is more powerful.
But when she has just been polished she shines like glass and with the white roof and wheels she is a real head turner.
I never used to be one for the sunday ritual of cleaning the car but now that has all changed since i got MINI.

OK I'm only gonna say this one more time. Discover what California Car Dusters are and with a couple minutes use your MINIs will stay clean and dust free all the time.

Cheers!

Spy Car. I like the CA car dusters. I even have one, but it's simply not the cure all you make it out to be. It doesn't help with the magnesium chloride (Colorado Ice Melter) that is washed out of the pavement when it rains here. Not to mention how much more water spots show up on dark paint. Dusters don't help much there. Overall, the duster is a help, but it simply doesn't make it as easy to own a dark car as a lighter colored one. This is our penalty for style.

I'll have to defer to you when it comes to dealing with magnesium chloride. Ice is just something we don't often encounter here in Los Angeles. And you are right, they don't help with water-spots.

But I thought we were talking about dust. The daily crud you get on an otherwise clean car just from driving it around for a day. To get rid of this stuff the Car Dusters are great.

We agree on that, right?

I just never hear of anyone in the UK or Australia using them and wondered if they were aware of them?

They certainly are popular here in car obsessed Sothern California. I know I give my MCS a quick once over once a day and it really helps (even on the supposedly dirt hiding PS. Plus I still have a black roof to deal with).

Still think the combination of a good wax job and a California Duster is the best way to keep a BRG MINI looking good between washings.

Peace

Paddy, checked out your gallery, how do you like the beige leather seats? Are they as difficult to keep clean?
