SOS - save our spokes - Poll plus waddya think

Bear with me on this one ,,,,

I recently kerbed my lovely 17" white S Spokes ( with only 600 miles on the clock ) Easily done and I feel like a right PRT I can tell you.

It got me thinking about an old car - the Ford Escort 1600E - it had pressed steel minilite-lookalike wheels - with a chrome 'embelisher' that fitted snugly on the rim.

This embellisher took all the knocks because it came over the lip of the rim and ( to my mind looked good )

If only an embellisher could be made for the 17" ers in either chrome or white with cuttots for the spokes I would fit them right away and be a happier bunny ..

Waddya think?

The steelies are heavier, generally, that similarly sized aluminum wheels. They flex more too. That and who'd make chrome wheel covers today? They'd be chrome-plated plastic (like our beloved bumpers) and while I am being silly by saying so, plastic wheel covers are, well... plastic wheel covers.
