Offline | What did you trade-in? Darus's recent thread about what we'd all be driving if the MINI didn't exist got me thinking. What did we all trade-in to get our beloved little motors? Ordinary stuff, or have any of you crazies part-exchanged Porches and Ferrari's to get your MINI fix??? Mine was a 1998 Subaru Impreza Sport - awful trade-in price from the dealer but I was desperate for my Cooper! |

Offline | I sold a 1993 Ford Escort which was inherited when I married the present wife. Basically a dependably means of transportation, the $hitbox as I had named it was weak in the power department and handcuffed to an automatic to boot. The air would keep you from heat stroke but wouldn't build any frost on the punkin. It had acumilated 120,000 boring miles when I passed it over to it's new owner. Somehow, I haven't missed it once. But than I haven't driven the Corvette either, since getting the Mini. |

Offline | no trade in. I sold my '82 vw rabbit s with lots of suspension mods, extra winter wheels, and some unneeded parts for $1K to a lucky soul who works in the service dept. of my local vw dealer. I got a great deal compared to what the general public would want for such a specimen, he got a great deal for a rare rabbit tricked up to his liking, and the car got a continued new lease on life. |

Offline | I had to turn in my company car, a 2000 Mercury Sable (ick!), because I wasn't racking up enough road time. Now they'll pay me 36 cents a mile in my own MINI. Won't they be surprised to see how much more I'm driving now. Jace |

Offline | A 2001 RAV-4. It had 45k miles. Pretty high. Will miss it for the 15 days of snow a year. That still leaves 350 to enjoy the MINI. Humourl3ss, the RSX type S was a second choice for me. What didn't you like about it that made you get rid of it so soon? Was it just that you wanted the MINI? Mike 2003 MINI Cooper S Chili Red 2005 Jetta GLI |

| Now With More Cowbell | Mike, The RSX-S is a fine car. It's solid, it's pretty quick for an unblown 2 litre (and torquey for a Honda), the controls are among the best I've ever seen (so ergonomic and so very clean in layout), and the hatch space is quite practical with the seats down. But compared to a MINI, it's just not very engaging. The handling has some feedback, but it still feels like there's an unseen barrier between the road and the steering wheel. It's also doesn't telegraph its limits well; there's not enough progressiveness in its nature to say "okay, okay, getting close, closer, breaking loose, spin". It's an all-or-nothing feeling, and that's a bit spooky. The MCS really lets you know what's going on, by way of contrast. Stock tires are horrible on an RSX too. I swapped the Michelins for some Bridgestones, and it was a night and day difference. The Bose stereo is dreadful (the high end is tinny and harsh beyond belief), the leather on the seats was disappointing too; it began cracking after less than six months. The other thing I hate is the all-or-nothing nature of Acura. If you want the Type-S, you must take the sunroof, the leather, the Bose, the seat heaters, etc. There's no such thing as a stripped Type-S. Very frustrating. Don't get me wrong, the RSX-S is a good car. It's very competitively priced here in Canada (in the US the RSX-S and the WRX are within a few hundred dollars of one another, but the Acura costs $4,000 less here). It's a little sterile though. -CW Global Moderator |
