Are there any 'jobbers' out there?
If so what number were you, when did you do it, and the burning question, will the new Mini be running in the 02 job.
Ex jobber No 35 (ran in the first in 90)

No offence, i was always under the impression that only cars which featured in the film were allowed on the Job...

A car built and designed after the film was not, as it never featured!

Now i know you all think 'cos it says MINI on the front, means its ok. But ask yourselves this, would you appreciate seeing a Ford Mondeo (afterall Ford own Jaguar), or a Vauxhall Vectra (they owned Bedford), or for that matter a Fiat Punto...

It kinda waters down the experience somewhat don't you agree!

These days covering 2000 miles in a new car is nothing, i do it every fortnight! Doing it in a 42 year old designed car is quite a feat though, i think this is part of the point of the Italian Job run. Its certainly why its been so popular, and i'm sure sponsors probably agree that they are sponsoring cars/people/teams who have to try hard to succeed...

Sorry if i seem to be ranting, but it does kinda spoil the experience somewhat.

Is there still a London to Brighton MINI run? If so is anyone else thinking about doing this in their new MINI?

As for the Italian Job sounds good and it has the double whammy of raising money for charity.

Personally, I would tend to agree with Brian, however the Wosley Hornet/Riley Elf appears on this annual run, as does a variety of Mini based cars, (6 wheelers, marcos etc) so who knows.

And yes, the London to Brighton run is still held, September I think it is.

Right i've never been on the run, just get that in the open before anyone starts a flame...

Ok so a Riley Elf may have been on the run, but i bet if you look during the film you will probably see one parked up at some point in the film.

My point is, that this will drive away mini enthusiasts, the Job has gone exceptionally well for the 10 years its been on, has anyone actually asked the Job organisers if its ok if the MINI goes!

Raising money for charity is a good thing, i just think that having new cars on the run is ruining the spirit of the Job. Some people say the same about the Shows, but the job is different!

Don't start on me Brianmini it really isn't worthwhile, anyway I'm going to do the run in my E type, thats in the film!

I have done the Italian Jobs step into France a couple of times and it is great fun ! I would like to enter again this year but should have my MINI by then, so will have to get in touch with Freddie (organiser) to find out if I could enter. I wouldn't consider doing 'the job' in a MINI as that looses the spirit of the event and is against the rules !
As for the London-Brighton, have done that a couple of times too...If you do it properly you have to wait a few hours inside the grounds at Crystal Palace and are sent of one at a time. What my club does is wait on the lower road and set off at a similar time, thus avoiding having to get up at a ludicrous hour ! The run is a gas, tho it is only about 40ish miles and the cars tend to get split up as cars go into services etc. My plan this year is to drice down th eday before, camp out have a great night out in Brighton and buy my run plate on the day ! I know that's not quite the spirit of the event, but as Brighton is one of my places I wanna make the most of it ! Besides, my club always pack up and go home early !

I see where you are coming from BrianMini, but you have had your say and some may see your comments, not very constructive. The Italian Job is really a way for a group of car nuts to show off there cars, have a good time and most of all raise money for charity. If people want to do it in A MINI or a Mini why not. Its silly to say do the run in a mondeo becouse it just is!!!

We shall put it this way, if the MINI still had the Rover name behind it you would look at it in a different light. Maybe im wrong, but there you go.

Both the Mini and MINI are here to stay, just enjoy your car whatever you have!

The rules state that the JOb is only open to cars faeturd in the film. That goes for the Jag E-type, Aston and the Muira and all the others that were in it ! The film as you all know starred the mini, and that is the most popular car on the run, although a few of the above have 'done the job'.
As much as I would like to do the step into France if Freddie told me no then I'd have not probs with that.
Interestingly Disney re-made the 'Love-bug' film a few years ago and used the original beetle....oh and John Hannah was a hammy baddy ! and Mickey Dolenz was an equally dreadful garage owner. But the original Jim Douglas re-appeared !

Freddie isn't camp at all ! He's a thoroughly gad bloke !
Not sure which plane was used unfortunately but think you'd have to drive on the event !
If the MINI is allowed on the Step into France, would anyone be interested in competing ?
