Thumbs down Kwik-Fit Knightmare !!!

Just thought I'd share an experience I had yesterday with you all as warning.

I had the misforture of suffering a puncture but just managed to limp it to my nearest Kwik-Fit. However the lads there told me that they weren't allowed to jack up new shape Mini's !!!!

This ment that I had to pump the tyre full of the goo suppied to get me to another company and had to purchase a new tyre even though the hole could have been repaired.

Has anyone else out there exprienced this reaction from Kwik-Fit?

I've just Emailed them and BMW and will let you know what their responses are. In the meantime be warned - Kwik-Fit might turn you away when you need them the most!

That's a shame

Kwik-fit have always been really good from my experience. They've always done my puncture repairs for free (though I obviously give the guy a bit for himself as a thankyou), just suggesting that I use them when I need new tyres.

Thankfully I haven't had to deal with a flat runflat yet though.

I must admit I've used Kwik-Fit in the past with my other cars and found them okay. But recently I've found that I can pick up new tyres cheeper at my main dealer.

Just thought I'd clear something up as well - it wasn't that Kwik-Fit had difficulty jacking the Mini up - it was that they had been told by head office "NOT TO TOUCH MINI's AT ALL". I found this completely mind blowing especially since I don't have run flats and the gel-kit is only to be used to limp you to a suitable garage. That means that in an emergency your options have now been cut in half if Kwik-Fit persist in this stance.

As for the Email address I used - it was customer.service@bmw.co.uk

Not sure if it was the best one to use but seemed the most logical from the choices on their website.

Micheldever jacked mine up without problems. Also the cheapest (or very close) in the country, you just have to be close to the M3 and A303 junction!

I've just contacted Kwik-Fit about replacing run flat tyres and the response I got from them was..... sorry sir we do not have the facilities to replace your tyres.

And these are the branches of Kwik-Fit I was told are NOT able to replace run flat tyres.

2 Branches in Tonbridge.
Tunbridgewells.
Maidstone.
Orpington.

I've always found KwikFit to be fine if you want something 'standard' like a run of the mill Mondea/Vectra (US equiv? No idea!), but as soon as you ask for something different (try buying 255/45/17's...)

I find that 'local' places, where the lads doing the work are happy to talk to you, usually take far more time and do the job right.

I totally agree punkeyfunky. There is a tyre place in SW Scotland and NW England called Denton Tyres and they are really good (and cheap). Not had to get MINI tyres yet so we will see if they can do runflats when the time comes.

Just thought I'd let you know how everthing turned out since I posted this thred.

Kwik-Fit basically have said that this is not company policy and that there is no reason why their mechanics where not 'allowed' to jack my car up. Which is pretty much what I'd already suspected anyway.

So basically the mechanics I spoke to were having a laugh and I also had to drag and appology out of the guy on the phone.

Lets face it we all knew Kwik-Fit weren't fantastic but after this encounter I can't see myself taking my car there again - emergency or not!

I recently had a nail in my tyre and after much looking around watling tyres in Catford who not only had the tyre but pulled that nail out and the tyre was fine!! Saved myself £162! Kwik fit could have help but didn't have the same tyre!
