Lightbulb In the interests of equality, I would like to offend everyone...

In order to help make MINI owners opinions on this vital issue clear to other road users, perhaps we could adopt a voluntary colour coding convention when selecting car colour:

Dark Silver - The car may be grey, but I am definitely NOT gay, right! In fact I'm pretty miserable
Liquid Yellow - Gay & smiling
Electric Blue - Bis*xual & gagging for it
Silk Green - In denial
Chilli Red - Straight but concerned about own p**** size
Black - Into bondage
Cosmos Black - Into bondage, gay
BRG - Into bondage, gay, attended private school$$$
Silver - Not interested in sex with anybody. (Too unhygenic)
Velvet Red - Post-menopausal (bifocal)
Candy Blue - Pre-pubescent
Pepper White - Middle-aged virgin, only owns one pair of underpants
Indi Blue - Stylish, intelligent, great lover

Is the MINI a Gay Car?

Returning to the subject, Is the MINI a Gay Car?

I think this is an interesting question, worthy of some discussion; however, there have only been a few posts relevant to the actual topic question, "Is the MINI a Gay Car?". This is related to--but slightly different from--the question "Is the NewBeetle/Miata a Girl's Car?". I would be very interested in any cogent responses to either of the following two questions and will post my own personal opinions after there have been two relevant replies:

Is the MINI a Gay Car? In other words is the MINI--the car itself, not the driver or the marketing strategy--Gay? Please state your reasons why or why not.

Is the New Beetle or Miata a Girl's Car? In otherwords, like a dress, does it look great on a girl, but slightly odd on a boy?

Again, please state your reasons so that we may have insite to your analysis.

p.s. before you get started, GAY is not a pejorative term for boys who like boys. It certainly can be used in a pejorative sense, but here it is only intended as a neutral question of fact.

New Beetle is definitely a girl's car!

IMHO:
New Beetle = Girl Car
Cabrio = Girl Car
Miata = Gay Boy Car
BMW Z3 = Gay Boy Car
4WD Truck = Redneck Car
4WD Truck (clean) = Gay Girl Car

Silk Green MINI = Beautiful Woman of Experience, who also has excellant taste!

Gosh wizard, I sure hope mine qualifies, and I'll certainly await yours with 'bated breath. Bored with the ****boy hornets' nest? Isn't there a "Sociology Today" forum somewhere...?

...there have only been a few posts relevant to the actual topic question

Perhaps because the entire topic is itself irrelevant including my own contribution. Is the MINI a Gay car, etc, etc ad nauseum? Well I always thought they were sheet metal cars actually. Do I need to start examining my kitchen toaster now for sexual/political overtones? BMW marketing is as crass as anyone's, why allow our attitudes to be manipulated by them one way or the other? They've already done a spectacular job jerking us around on the production/delivery aspects, isn't that enough!!??

I like the MINI, mini, Miata, SS 396 Chevelles, GT 350 Mustangs, Duesenburgs, Bug-eyed Sprites, TC & TD's, Kenworths, Peterbilts (refrain!!!), my old 240-Z '57 Chevy & Z-28 Camaro. I've liked them all and many others for the purely automotive statement they made and if there was any social overtone I could care less.

Feel free to express yourselves to your heart's content here if you need to worry yourselves over how your MINI reflects on you. But I live in Fort Lauderdale, and if I let every daily decision be influenced on the basis of what my gay/straight neighbors think of me I'd be a psychological basket case by next week. I'm sure there'll be a bunch of MINIs running around here soon. I won't be worrying about the orientation of the driver as I honk & wave, and I hope they'll all show me the same consideration.

TonyC--resurrected itself from the cesspool is more like it.

So what that some people think the car's a gay boy car, the ones that would think it are the ones that are jealous. If I'm at some lights and some little boy racer pulls up next to me in his 1.2 litre 106 with 17 inch alloys and a soundsystem the size of gibralta and says 'what a gay car' to me, I'll just laugh at him as I burn off leaving him in the dust behind me!!!

PS If you think bmw z3s are gay, have a look in this months performance bmw. Wow.

I don't know about Gay, but it doesn't drive straight and I'm not smiling

The nice man at BMW rang me today to tell me that a large box containing enough parts for about 1/2 a car had arrived to correct my deviant MINI. Now the little **** is going to get corrective surgery by a big mechanic with oily hands.Pay back time!!

PS Does Liquid Yellow with satin black chequered roof = S&M and screaming????

The MINI, its a love/hate thing.

I think the comparison to a toaster is valid. These products are just designed to be neutral. There are certain beautiful designs over the years, like Airstream trailers, and some very functional ones, like the VW Thing... But I doubt any were designed with a gender bias.

One might argue that some inanimate objects are gender biased, like a Cordless Drill for MEN, or a Butane hair curler for WOMEN. That's pretty silly. The observer determines the perception, and as such, there should be as many opinions on this, as there are members on MINI2.

My opinion, is that the MINI is beautiful. Sure, there is NO mistaking what market the HUMMER goes after, but the inverse is not necessarily true of a pretty design. No one would argue that a Ferarri is 'girly' just 'cause a hell of a lot more thought went into it's asthetics, than went into the HUMMER.

So, I think the MINI is a car. I'm happy to drive it, that doesn't label me as anything in particular, but perhaps it's not such a testosterone-exclusive club as a HUMMER.

That also speaks to the fact that the MINI is a sensible car. It's a fun-to-drive, fuel efficient, hatchback. It's an easy choice for anyone. The HUMMER is a ground-crushing thirsty beast of a machine. It would not exist if not for the Army, and a whole lot of guys wanting what the army has. If there were an all-women planet, I'd be surprised if the HUMMER existed as a civillian vehicle.

But, if us lot on MINI2 are any indication, there would still be a MINI on an all-guy planet.

Oh yes it is!

I was 'straight' but the bloody car has turned me gay!

I'm seeing a solicitor and WILL be suing BMW.

Seriously though folks; the MINI rather cleverly crosses gender appeal. The girls like its cuteness and the guys get off on its sporty pretensions (and individuality).
