When to Pay?

Have ordered an MCS and cant wait to take the keys on Sept 1st, but im wondering when i have to actually pay the balance for the car.

They have my deposit.

Has anyone paid by cheque or cash ? (bankers)

Or can you electronically exchange funds at the dealers?

If it's any help, the dealer wanted a cheque for the balance at least five days before collection of car, to clear cheque. (That's not to say that there are not other ways of doing it)

I paid the balance with a bankers draft on the day. If you're paying by cheque, the cheque will need to clear before they let you have the car.

It depends on your dealer.
Most will be happy to release the car on delivery date if you show up with a bankers draft
They're also happy for a direct bank transfer but need to see the money in their bank before they release the car.
If you are lucky they will accept a switch card or even a credit card
Unlike my previous dealer my new dealer will accept payment for the whole car on credit card. Reward points aplenty

Not quite a trip around the world
Only a trip to US and back for two
As I've already got a huge limit on the card which still isn't enough the card company have said I can just overpay the extra credit I need before I pay for the car and everything will be OK

Only problem though now is that my insurance company are going to pay the dealer directly instead of me first so I won't now be able to cane my credit card. No free trip to the US anymore

Switch for me too, although less hassle if you let your bank know first.

I've got to pay my balance next wenesday. I will pay by Visa, My dealers advised me to contact my bank beforehand and inform them that a large transaction will take place around a perticular time. Should be trouble free providing I have sufficient funds.

I paid on my Debit Card on the day. Walked in, checked the car for match to specification, damage etc. handed over card, signed chit, drove car away from dealer's forcourt. Didn't stop driving for 70 miles. Home only 7 miles from dealer.

I am not paying a penny more than my £1000 I put down as deposit until collection day...noway am I giving over all my money until I have checked it over, seen all the addons are fitted and tested it!...I've learned from previous mistakes with cars and other stuff to.

I'll be tranfering all the cash into my bank account a little before collection and then just handing over my visa card for the rest to be sorted when i'm happy...if its not upto scratch I'll hold 10% until its fixed...but I will expect it sorted pronto or be allowed take the car with the promise of fixing in near future...but I wont pay the 10% until it is!

Do you think they'll let you take the car without paying for it in full?

I only paid £500 deposit too.

I paid by bank draft on the day. Most dealers accept, Switch, Visa Debit, CHAPS transfer or simple net transfers.

My sisters dealer forgot to debit her Switch card for about 6 months after she picked up the car.........
