I couldn't resist ordering my mini cooper yesterday, but i have to admit i'm a bit anxious after reading through some of the posts in the fixes and faults section. So does anyone regret buying their Mini and how are some of the higher milage Minis holding up.
Well not exactly a high miler but had mine for nearly
two years now had a few problems early on but they were
fixed no problem but other than i am very happy indeed
all the problem are now long forgotten.
the majority of the people on the boards seem to be very happy with their's...i just get a bit worried because i'm use to my civic that never had a problem to speak of. the civic isn't nearly as much fun though so i'll stop my worrying!
I'm waiting for mine too, and also read the posts. I think there are always teething troubles with new models, and the Mini has had its share. A lot of these will have been engineered out through changes rolled in during the Mini's life since its release.
You have to credit Honda/Toyota for making damned reliable vehicles, but I WANTED a Mini.
I expect the handling to be faultless, the ride to be a little firm, and the grin factor to be 10/10.
Mt dealer has said his new demonstrator feels more solid than his older MINI, that only had 6k on the clock so dunno if they have made and difference with the newer builds?
2003 Mini Cooper S: First-quarter update Show Stopper
By MAC MORRISON
WITH THREE MONTHS AND 7200 miles logged on our Mini Cooper S, we’re happy to report no significant problems. Yes, we managed to break the plastic ashtray lid, and we’re annoyed by an occasional buzz from the shifter that varies in severity and duration. We’ve yet to meet our dealer, as the first service visit isn’t required until we reach the 10,000-mile mark.
Perhaps the worst we can say about the car is that virtually everyone we encounter is enamored of it. Let’s just say it’s wise to allot an extra 30 minutes (at least) for any given trip. Simple runs to the gas station, carwash or store tend to evolve into showroom-type walk-arounds. People flock to the Mini like the Duke boys to moonshine. And it’s not just the parking lot crowd. We rarely see so many smiles behind the windshields of our fellow commuters as when they spot us.
If those drivers look closely, they see our smiles as well. “With the Mini, I’m back in my early teens, with the same ear-to-ear grin I wore whenever I would drive my go-kart,” one editor says.
Even so, there are things our staff disagrees about. Some find the car’s ride a bit too harsh, especially over rough roads. Others are acutely aware of the Cooper’s diminutive size, most often when surrounded by the sport/ute and pickup-truck brigade that dominates our local highways. But once planted behind the wheel, most of us forget quickly about the car’s on-paper dimensions. It’s easy to do so when you realize that hey, there’s some real utility here. We loaded the cargo area with enough groceries to prompt the observation that the Mini is “a good shopping cart,” and we drove five hours to Indianapolis for Indy 500 qualifying. That’s about as long as we can take in the driver’s seat, though.
The driver on that trip found that the stiff ride and small size take their toll after a couple of hours.
Road trips, however, are not what the Mini is about. As one staff member noted after a game of twilight follow-the-leader with another local Cooper driver, “This is why I drive.”

Disappointed I ain't; had my cooper for 2 months now, and if anything it gets better and better. I'm learning to use its capabilities (esp handling) to the full and the engine is definitely loosening up.
I waas a bit concerned after ordering my car and seeing some of the problems others were having; but (and I am touching my head quite firmly now) my car has been near perfect.
no regrets. (perhaps this should have been a poll, then again it's probaby been done.)

5300 miles in 3 months and still loving it. My dealer took three tries to get the programming of all my preferences right, so make sure you're extra patient and thorough in communicating your preferences prior to pickup. And then (even more difficult) test the preferences thoroughly when picking it up.
I'm probably going to do some mods to the intake, exhaust and supercharger pulley on mine... now that I'm used to the MINI, I'd like more grunt.
- my 2 cents.

6 months and 18000 km (11000 mi). It's in for the first service and a few minor bug fixes (coolant resevoir,...) and I'm driving a bmw 328 loaner. I miss my mini sooo much and can't wait to get it back on Monday. NO, Zero, regrets.
sad goodbye to 2002 Chili MCS
Happy hello to BRG JCW MCSC
Well, unfortunately I'm one of the ones who's disappointed. I bought my car about 5 weeks ago and it's been a nightmare. 5 trips to the dealer for repairs, 4 of them because the Service Engine Soon light keeps coming on and they can't figure out what's wrong. The car's there now in fact. They're having a "super technician" from the regional office come look at it Monday. The guys at the dealership seem to be conscientious; the problem is the car, and poor BMW quality control, not the dealership, I think.
I love the car when it's running right, but too often it's not.

I've had mine 5 months and just turned 6400 miles. I've had one fix from the dealer....a coolant tank. So I would say no problems and I'm extremely happy with the car.
As for the above quote, I think the size of the driver has a lot to do with it. Last week I just rolled up 1600 miles in 4 days, including sitting behind the wheel on Friday for a total of 12 hours in 3 hour, 2 hour, and 7 hour segments! After 8 hours sleep I couldn't even tell I had been in the car! I've owned a lot of cars I could never even think about doing that in without getting a back ache. I'm 5'7" and think the seats are supurb!
