Offline | You see there was this bus driver on the slow lane, and this really annoyoing taxi in front of it. So I pull out on to the outside lane on a dip going up a hill, that has a small roundabout on teh end of it. So I drop a gear plant my foot and overtake everything, and the roundabout was coming up VERY VERY quickly, so I cut the taxi so I can get back in lane, slam my breaks as a car was just on turing towards my direction, The ABS kicks in, and I nearlyt sH*t myself ad the MINI was still heading for this other car. But thank the MINI and some brilliant stopping gizmos I came to standing still! I must have been going 60 when I had to slam on the breaks! I drove by a few days later and saw rubber marks on the tarmac.... look slike I left my mark It could have been asta la vista to MINI then! |

| 12th Floor Cube Dweller | There was one time I was on a freeway with three lanes going in my direction. I was in the right, the middle was empty and a Hyundai Sonata in the left. We both decided we wanted into the middle lane at the same time. I don't think he even noticed me. I made a correction to get back to where I was. Scared me and my passenger. Offline | I was coming down the M1 motorway in heavy traffic, in the middle lane, when the petrol tanker in the slow lane had to change lanes in an emergency due to some idiot on the hard shoulder just pulling out.... anyway, the tanker just swerved into my lane.... Somehow I realised he was going to just squash me...I just swerved into the overtaking lane, and fortuanlty at that precise time there was a gap in the fast lane traffic.... My life flashed before my eyes, and it was still boring.... |

| Numb from Jäger | Biggest problem I've had (several times mind you) is hesitation in 1st. Two specific instances: I was pulling out into fast heavy traffic and thought I was going to die (one with A/C on, other time with A/C off-cause I thought I had learned). It finally reved-up but gees..... I thought I needed to pull over to check my backside. -goin440 IB/IB MC |

| AWOL | kinda related... Waiting at a roundabout when a renault laguna comes round, attractive female in the passenger seat see's my car, smiles, obviously nudges or says something to car driver, who also looks over as he comes round in front of me and takes the next exit, unfortunately his exit from the roundabout had traffic at a standstill, he hits the brakes skids to a halt and lightly nudges the car in front of him (no damage!), female is then seen waving arms at driver as if to say "why werent you looking where you were going?"... I drive off feeling kinda sheepish !!! |

| UberGeek | I have to drive auto, after a real crash left me paralysed in my arm (not in my MINI). This is what was left of my bike: http://punkey.net/M178UKK-Crash-1.html http://punkey.net/M178UKK-Crash-2.html ... only the back wheel was salvaged. I've no intention of doing anything like that to the MINI... ![]() L |

Offline | A forum member who shall remain nameless took me for a drive the other day in his Indi Blue CVT and he was demonstrating the power of DSC. We were driving on a very twisty 2 lane mountain road, when we came upon a very slow moving car. We followed it for what seemed like a mile, and finally my friend decided to overtake the slow car on a blind corner. He got in the oncoming lane, and floored it. We zipped by fine, but as we came around the corner, an oncoming car came out of nowhere, and my friend quickly got back into the lane in front of the slow car, but he overshot it, and hit gravel. The DSC shut power, and we were like in slow motion---caught between a slow car that we just cut off, and an oncoming car, inside a non responsive MC. Pretty scary stuff. Needless to say, my friend was pretty freaked. I thought it was kinda fun! He drove more carefully after that! |

Offline | Other than the retread shredding off of an 18 wheeler right in front of me, and me swerving wildly to avoid the shrapnel? Or the Brady-Built Sunroom (http://www.bradyrooms.com/sunrooms/straeve.asp) sliding off the flatbed in front of me? Both happened within 10 days of each other, on the MA Pike whilst doing about 80MPH. But gee, other than that I can't think of anything........... |

| MINI2 Master | In my old car I lost the back end in greasy conditions exiting a roundabout. It flicked out once and I caught it,. but I must have over-compensated as it flicked out again and it was physics from there on in. I span 180 degrees on the road with a queue of traffic on the other side of the road queueing for the M69 island I'd just come off. How I managed to stay on my side of the road I'll never know, but as I said I spun 180 degrees and went sideways up the kerb (to my right). Luckily the kerb was angled and not vertical (else I'm sure I'd have gone onto my side). Amazingly there was no-one behind me so ~I didn't meet anyone as I faced the wrong way! I ended up sat on the long grass on the side of the road with seriously damaged pride (I'd just done it in front of rush hour traffic on the other side of the road remember!) but foruntately not too bad damage to the car. It needed an alloy repair as I'd grazed one wheel and it also needed a drivers side rear wheel bearing and stub axle which wasn't surprising as it was the first wheel to hit the kerb. Ooops! It was one of the reasons I bought a MINI, I lost a bit of confidence in my old car's ability to take bends at any speed in iffy weather conditions. |

| M5 Extraordinare! | Going up the 5 freeway on the number 2 lane following a slow ***** old POS with 4 ppl in it the number 3 lane was empty so i switched from the 2 to the 3 and gave it gas to pass then when my car was a quarter over laping his car basically my hood and his trunk were parallel the POS just decided to abruptly change lanes INTO me no signal nothing... keep im mind i was going like 65mph and accelerating... i was pretty sure there was no one in the number 4 lane cuz i checked previously but too late now so i pulled my wheel to the right and then quickly pulled it back to the left to correct the car tires were yelling at me but the MINI handled it nicely... didnt lose control just tires yelling and screaming... |

| Numb from Jäger | Does smoking a skunk count? Little sucker decided it was time to cross the road a little too late. I managed contact with both front and rear tires(eeewww). MINI swerves great, and awesome reaction feel (I imagine an ear2ear grin in a slalom). Little sucker even got off a "stink" that, luckily, stayed only overnight (the 'real' near miss). -goin440 IB/IB MC |

Offline | I found out why you don't suddenly let off the accelerator while you make a sharp left on a road course at Gateway International Speedway in St. Louis. Moments before this picture was taken I was going right to left from the photographer's viewpoint. I let off the gas to make a left turn, and the back end of the car decided it could go wherever it wanted to. Aside from grass stuck in the wheels, the car was fine. I, on the other hand, was a bit shaky for a while. And they called me Dust Bunny for weeks. ![]() Also, the fabulous handling of George the MINI has saved me from inattentive drivers on several occasions. Amy ![]() |
