Offline | Important! Car stolen, please read!! Hi everyone, My mate's car was stolen last night in North Derbyshire/Sheffield, it's a red Honda Civic Type R with a very distinctive number plate S13 ERT which makes it look like S BERT. The theiving scrote's broke into his house while he was asleep sometime between 12 and 6.30am and took the keys. Firstly if anyone see's this car, follow it and call the police, this lot are not common thieves their scum who would probably put a screwdriver or worse into you to get your car keys, they've broken into your house for the keys, what else would they do? Keep an eye out everyone and please think about your security on windows and doors. Regards, Nic |

Offline | Make sure you report your car stolen on the www.ukstolencars.co.uk - I know the guy who runs the site and it's VERY popular now for checking stolen cars in the UK. Sorry to hear about the car though... should be strung up by the... Matt |

Offline | No he didn't have a tracker, makes you wonder if you really want the car back after its been screwed shitless by scrotes or used in a ram raid... Good call on the site Matt, i'll recommend it to him now. |

| Hangin at the Krusty Krab | I was worried about this scenario when I bought my MC. Apparently (my sis is a PC) the number of cars stolen with the keys is on the increase because household security (or rather lack-of) is easier to bypass than modern car security. These cars are normally stolen to order, so using the key is a big benefit to the thieving scrotes. So I bought a safe from B&Q (£60) and bolted it to the concrete floor under my stairs (not hidden) and put some sticky-back hooks on the inside of the door to hold all my keys. This way, when I go to work on my m/bike, my MC keys are protected and vice-versa. I haven't hidden the safe on the premise that if a thief sees that you are serious about security, they won't bother looking elsewhere in the house (all the valuables are in the safe) - a tip from one of these security TV programmes. Another point, if your car is stolen with the keys, which insurance policy pays up? Your cars? - Unlikely as most policies don't pay if the key is used. Your house? - Unlikely as most policies have a value limit, or don't cover personal items outside of the home. On this basis £60 is a small amount, and a safe may actually reduce your household insurance premium (make sure you get an insurance approved safe >£10,000 cover). A small price to pay for peace of mind, and I also have somewhere safe for my V5........ |

Sorry to hear of the loss. A great benefit to being a UK resident lies in the ability to very cheaply buy a mobile phone (a 1-time fee), then sign it into a GPS location service (also a cheap 1-time annual fee). The service is able to locate the SIM card within the phone, thus giving away the position. [A British MINI2er here taught me this a few weeks back,- alas, all the kings horses & all the kings men can't save our SugarBelly across the pond.] ![]() Granted, one would need to hide the phone from sight, while keeping it plugged-in or charged, but still, a very economical safety net. One may also get large discounts from insurance premiums, - in certain areas of the U.S., 30% off the premium is given for having such a relocation GPS service. **U.S. technology is so far behind that even our 911 emergency services can't get this GPS-via-SIM card thing working. If we had, many many lives could've been saved on 9-11-01. ![]() -s.b. Last edited by SugarBelly : Jul 22nd, 2003 at 08:23 PM. |

Offline | This seems to be happening all to often nowadays. A year ago my friend's house was broken into (in the middel of the night) and they took his 7 series keys, the car was then used in a number of ram raids and also a hit and run. The police panda cars couldn't catch it! A month ago my friend girlfriends brother bought a brand new clio, 1 week old someone came into the house, took his keys a took the car. He did actually get the car back this time. You have to be so careful, if they are willing to break in when you are asleep then they are not going to be unarmed and they wont be scared of confronting you if needed! |

| Hangin at the Krusty Krab | I use an Metro Stoplok Pro - (Halfords £49.99 ) which fits very snuggly on my steering wheel. Bright yellow so you can't miss it, and rubber backed so it doesn't scratch the steering wheel centre.Only problems is that with sports seats, sometimes getting in/out of the car with the Autolok in place is a bit of a squeeze!!! |

| MINI2 Newbie | I had my cooper stolen a few weeks ago. The gits broke into the house and took the keys which were hidden away. My other half's TT was taken as well. He had a tracker and it turned up about 5 hours later. Mine hasn't, but the insurance company have paid out. So, now I'm car-less until the Cooper S turns up ! |

Offline | Nasty thing to have happened Sarah ![]() Yeah there's still hope for a happy ending here Cheeky, myself and a couple of other friends are thinking about going up to Sheffield to have a look around on Friday night, it's garanteed to be out at a cruise or something from the discription of the 'driver'. To be honest the car isn't the main issue, the fact they broke into his house is. Cheers Nic |

Offline | Just don't be tempted to teach the scrote a physical lesson... call him in, I know how tempted I would be! Scrotes like this always know the law inside and out... The police will clip his ear when no-one is looking! |
