| Numb from Jäger | Another 'old vs. new'--this time MiniWorld I enjoy reading MiniWorld, and understand how the old Mini graces more pages than the MINI. In fact, I enjoy reading about the old Mini, hence the reason I bought July 2003 issue from a bookstore. MiniWorld has so far been pretty good about staying out of the old vs. new conflict, I applaud their effort. Maybe I'm over reacting (very possible). I was flipping through the issue and started reading about dyno results for some classics. Nothing startling... 40hp here, 60hp there, wow 105. But there was one part that bothered me--a picture of a Mini included in this article. Granted, I should probably have expected some shenanigans from the 'miniclassic.co.uk' club, but I figured MiniWorld would police what they put in the magizine more closely--epescially on this sensitive issue. Your thoughts? Pics: ![]() ![]() These pics don't due the article justice. The magizine pics are clearly visible. -goin440 IB/IB MC |

Offline | John Cooper work with BMW to produce warrated kits. This guy obviously doesnt know that, hence why he still has a JC sticker on his window and a sticker slating the BMW mini. I'd say he was inbred, therefor is obvious stupidity, and not worth worrying about. Also, anyone that looks at his car will know its a classic, by stating the obvious, i'd say he's insecure. |

Offline | I'm confused - how can a car designed & built in the UK be considered a "German Copy" - if ownership counted then all Rolls Royces would be german (now owned by Volkswagen) as would that all american symbol, the Jeep (owned by Crysler, which is in term effectivly owned by Mercadies) Besides after 4 decades, the Mini was due a major re-design, for its day it was revolutionary, now its merely small and cramped Mark - its a MINI Cooper, not a BMW Mini ![]() Lifes a reach ... and then you gybe |

Offline | sorry if im being pedantic, but isnt the new mini designed by an american?(Frank Stephenson i think) as for the old mini being "small and cramped" - it seats 4 adults, the new one doesnt. i really dont know why people get so upset about old mini owners slagging off the new mini, surely you all expected it? by the way,i currently own a new MCS,im not defending the old mini unnecessarily, but it was and still is a better designed car-even now. |

Offline | I don't like arguing, but I have to say I disagree . A car so inherently dangerous as the original Mini can hardly be deemed to be as well designed as a 21st century motor. |

Offline | Not true, I can fit four people in my MINI more comfortably than my Mini, and that doesn't even have the last generation interior the Mini had with airbags, bigger 'comfier' seats etc, which were laughable for rear passenger space (and front was pretty cramped too). The MINI has much more car to fit them in though. ![]() Our trials and tribulations living in a "bleeding edge" eco house... Oxley Woods Living |

Offline | As the owner of both air and water cooled VW Beetles I get somewhat sick of the 'new vs old' argument. There are countless 'knockers' of the new bug and to a large degree they do have a point - engine wrong end/air vs water/being fast ![]() I cant pretend to know too much about the mini/MINI but can see some obvious alterations/improvements although the new one does at least share plenty of the originals qualities. These people dont really get the point - if VW and BMW had made faithfull replica's of the old car (oh - hang on VW did anyway - it was called a Mexican beetle!) then that would have defeated the object of the exercise which was to built a 'concept car' based on the original idea, not copy it. I find it galling that someone who drives around in a new updated (is that car in the picture not a fairly recent model with 'new fangled JC bits bolted to it??) can dare to criticise the new car. The new Mini, like the Beetle has rekindled a new interest in the marque, putting some folk who would never have stepped foot in an old one - and that can only be a good thing! I'll slip my soapbox back under the bed ![]() Paul www.newbeetle.org.uk |

Offline | I feel sorry for the Guy with the mini in the picture. He's right, the New Mini is a **** copy. That is, as a copy, it's terrible. As a brilliant new car with a few styling hints at an old car, it excellent. He isn't driving a **** german copy. He's driving a **** British original.... What a sad little man he must be.... |

Offline | To sort of defend the Magazine a little. (and i mean a little) Since the statement doesnt state the NEW MINI even though we believe it does. ok knows it does cause were MINI owners. Like most my MINI was BUILT in Oxford, England and to me its considered an English car. Since other are told where there built and not who designed it NON-MINI owners wouldnt know there talking about the MINI with that sticker. On another note. According to "The New Mini" by Patrick Paternie. The Designer of the Origanal mini was a Turkish gentlemen. With that said then under the same train of thought as with the NEW MINI then the Original mini should be a (fill in the black) Turkey copy?? <-- bet thats going to go over well. 02 MCS DS/W (Totaled November 02 on Fall Folage Run) 03 MCS DS/W (See my MINI Profie for extensive list of mods) |
