Offline | If the system has been well designed then the effect on fuel consumption should depend on how hard the system is working, so I would expect the auto air con to result in a fuel saving by not over-cooling. I must admit that I have not seen a noticeable difference in mpg with the auto air con switched on - still seem to average about 38-40 mpg (UK gallon) in my One. The AC does have a noticeable effect on acceleration though, so I normally turn it off if I'm stuck behind another vehicle and waiting to overtake. Ian |

Offline | I consistently get 38 mpg with the auto aircon off during highway driving and 32 mpg with it on in moderately hot (80 degrees fahrenheit) weather. 2004 Winning Blue Mazda RX-8 |

Offline | One of Newton's laws outlines why it costs in some way. You'll either use power from the engine or more fuel, something's got to provide it. I don't have AC in my MINI but have certainly experienced a noticable difference in power/responsiveness in other cars I've driven with AC on. Red/Black R56 Cooper |
